The Railway Rabbits Fern and the Fiery Dragon by Georgie Adams Review

We were delighted to be asked to review this wonderful children’s book by Georgie Adams.
The Railway Rabbits series of children’s books brings a wonderful family of rabbits to life with charming stories that are an ideal new first read for early readers. Georgie Adams view from her cottage window, overlooking the valley and route of the railway was the inspiration behind these books and you can feel her love of the area reading through the book.
Georgie Adams brings to life the characters of each rabbit with easy to understand writing and my daughters were captured from the first page.
We loved the way at the beginning of the book Georgie Adams ‘introduced’ each Railway Rabbit, giving a glimpse of their personality, likes, dislikes and favourite saying, with gorgeous little black and white pictures depicting each of the characters. There was also the family tree which my little girl liked to refer back to, and not forgetting the lovely illustration of the Ripple River Valley, bringing the whole book to life and helping my girls really imagine the little rabbits in their homes. The girls particularly liked that the story was told from the rabbit’s point of view.
My two daughters aged 7 and 11 both thoroughly enjoyed the book in their own way. We took the book on holiday with us and it was something we looked forward to doing together every night. Although probably too young for my oldest she enjoyed sitting with us and hearing the tales of the little rabbits and their adventures in this story. And it was also easy for her to read to her little sister, a book they both could enjoy together.
For my youngest although the chapters were quite long the story kept her entertained and keen to know more. She managed to read the book by herself too which was great to encourage her to read more and understand the story. The only time she struggled with words tended to be the rabbit’s names but once she mastered these she was fine. She enjoyed this book a lot and asked to visit our local pet shop on our return from holiday to see the rabbits there!
Without giving away the tale of the antics of the little rabbits in this particular story I like the underlying message of the real dangers little rabbits face in the wild. I particularly also liked the fact that it was about an animal and not some fictitious television character my youngest has got into lately like Moshi Monsters or something… I liked the fact she could actually relate to the story.
My daughters and I would like to highly recommend this book and in fact we have now ordered more as my youngest is keen to know what else these little rabbits have been getting up to.
