The Railway Children at The Lowry Manchester Review

Reviewed by Lucy Gwilliam
Last night (Tuesday 25 July 2017), I had the delightful experience of watching the fantastic The Railway Children, at The Lowry theatre in Salford, Manchester.
I decided to take my 7-year-old daughter along with me to see the stage production, adapted by Dave Simpson, of the classic novel by E. Nesbit. She was very excited leading up to the show, watching the promotional videos online and reading previous reviews and we were not to be disappointed.
The story sees three children, Roberta, Phyllis and Peter who have moved to the Yorkshire countryside from their privileged London home, when their life is turned upside down. Their father has been sent off on “official business” by the government, or so their mother has led them to believe.
The beautiful and captivating tale shows how new friendships, taking risks and helping those in need can change lives for the better. Each step in their journey links to “the old man” on the train and how he can help them in their quest to get their father back home.
It is a truly engaging show, with spectacular acting, excellent props and set design. There was not a thing I would improve.
My daughter and I had a fabulous night and came out spellbound by this wonderful family show. We would definitely recommend this show to a friend – and I already have!
