Lights, camera…. Motown!!
If you dream of being transported back to the soulful 60s and 70s, then The Magic of Motown is for you. My mother has always been a fan of Motown and I seem to have inherited a panache for this musical sensation too, so we were brimming with excitement at the prospect of seeing some of our musical heroes recreated on stage.
Our venue of choice was the architecturally brilliant Wales Millennium Centre, a hub for preforming arts, located at the trendy Cardiff Bay. The location is easily reached using public transport, with ample parking nearby. The venue is also surrounded by a host of restaurants and popular eateries, should you fancy a bite to eat before the show. The interior of the Millennium Centre does not disappoint either, on entering you are overcome with a sense of grandeur, despite the minimalist design. The Centre is home to three theaters, with several bars and places to eat. The venue was extremely well staffed and queues were kept to a minimum at the ticket collect points. There were also numerous helpful and polite staff members on hand to direct customers to their appointed seats, around the venue, which was spotlessly clean.
We quickly settled into our seats in the lower stalls, which offered an excellent view, as we waited for the ‘magic’ to begin. The backdrop for the show was relatively simplistic, a scene of musical legends, which gave us a taste as to what lay ahead.
I have to say, the entertainment did not disappoint, with the seven strong cast, consisting of 4 males and 3 females, putting on a memorable performance. Not forgetting the amazing musicians, who accompanied throughout. All cast members were extremely talented, with superb singing voices and the moves to boot!! The costumes were also amazing, reflecting the fashion of the time and these were continually changed (sometimes, at lightning speed) throughout the show. During the evening we were treated to infamous tunes from legends, such as, The Temptations, The Supremes, Gladys Knight and The Pips and The Jackson Five, to name but a few. Audience engagement was outstanding and it was real struggle to stay in the seat. By the end of the performance the majority of the audience were actually on their feet! My only complaint is that the 2½ hour show seemed to be over in a blink of an eye as we enjoyed ourselves so much!
Overall, an amazing display from being to end!! A must see and a massive 5 out of 5 from us, well done!!
