Newmarket racecourse is the most beautiful of courses in the country often referred to as the headquarters of British horseracing, home to many training and stud yards hence the stunning views and miles of grassland and fields. It is also home to the National Horseracing Museum.
The food and drink stands were plentiful and varied, all of which were quite reasonable. We sampled the pizzas and burger all under £15. There were also other dining areas that you could book. The main toilet areas had massive queues throughout the day, but we did find another toilet block which we had not realised nearer the entrance.
Wow, wow, wow! what a fabulous day and night. Loved by everyone from small children to senior adults.
We arrived by taxi from our local bed and breakfast just as the gates opened at 11:30am. This was a rather good move being coaches and cars had started arriving so a back up of traffic was already building up.
Food and drink are not allowed in the grounds, but you can enjoy a picnic and drinks within the grassed area of the car parks. It is actually a lot nicer that it sounds. If you came in a car or coach, you could go in and out of the racecourse to enjoy your food/drink if you do not want to purchase food and drink.
We started off with a cocktail which was delicious then purchased the Lucky Dip Tote which is perfect if you do not want to/or know how to choose your bets. It’s a card with 6 different race tickets and a free ticket to enter an free race day – unfortunately our luck was not with us but it was still really good fun working out what accumulators, place pot, quad pot, each way double and various others that we would never have known.
After the racing the acts come on stage about 5:30 and finishing approximately 8:30. There are raised areas for wheelchair users and stands if you did not want to stand amongst the crowds. Whilst the atmosphere is phenomenal, it does get really crowded. There are big screens outside of the main grassed areas if you would rather sit in comfort and have a drink or food.
The Music –
Natasha Beddingfield was amazing and every bit the star who captured the attention of the crowd throughout her set, her voice is absolutely fabulous, and we were the first to hear her new record which is yet to be released. Sugababes were equally as enjoyable who again got the crowd up dancing and singing with their vibrant and energetic dance routines. Totally took us back to the early 2000’s.
To end it all we had a fabulous day in an amazing location, and we cannot wait to visit again.
