“The Full Monty” is a stage adaptation of a highly successful British comedy-drama movie by the same name. It raises some very important social issues like unemployment, sexuality, father’s rights and depression, but at the same time it has a positive vibe and full of humour and excellent one-liners.
The story started with two best friends Gaz (Gary Lucy – famous for his EastEnders and The Bill roles, as well as winning Dancing on Ice) and Dave (Kai Owen) breaking into a dilapidated factory to steal some scrap metal. The two former steel workers lost their jobs and were struggling to find a more honourable way of earning money. With them, they had Gaz’s son and we learned because of child maintenance arrears, there was a court order to either settle arrears or Gaz won’t see his son again.
In despair, Gaz found himself outside a pub where Dreamboys had a performance that night. Amazed and encouraged by the buzz and excitement from screaming girls and on hearing what the ticket price to see Dreamboys was, Gaz decided to set up his own act and to attract the numbers, came up with an idea to do the full monty rather than just a striptease.
Putting an advert, they attracted all sorts of volunteers to take part in the act: Horse (Louis Emerick), Lomper (Anthony Lewis) and Guy (Chris Fountain) – one with arthritis, one with special needs and one who could neither sing nor dance, which made it even more entertaining to watch!
Fantastic performance from all the actors! Especially from a 12 year old Felix Yates (Nathan). It was so endearing to see how he sacrificed £150 of his own saving to secure the booking of the venue and later persuaded his dad to follow his idea through when Gaz got cold feet. Amazing cast as well, with so many well-known performers! But nothing beats the finale – Tom Jones’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On”, fireworks, giggles and screams – a truly unforgettable experience!
Highly recommend to go and see the show! With the prices starting as low as £14.40, everyone is guaranteed to have an awesome night! It was great to see different generations in the audience as well as quite a few male spectators as well!
Tickets cost from £14.40 to £37.40 (plus £2.85 transaction fee).
