A literal stones throw from the noisy, fast moving M25 stands the 4* Waltham Abbey Marriott Hotel. Despite being mere seconds from junction 26 inside the hotel I spent a blissful day of calm relaxing indulgence.
Using the Buyagift 2 for 1 Deluxe Spa Day at a Marriott Hotel voucher (there are 15 locations in the UK) I took my mum as a birthday treat. The hotel was easy to find and had masses of parking. It was £3 for 8 hours and offered a pay by phone service for those who had forgotten their coins. The hotel lobby/bar was a massive central open area filled with high backed booths for a more intimate chat or central stools for those conducting business. It was a really welcoming space in mainly deep reds with a mix and match selection of chairs. We were greeted quickly by the busy reception staff who offered friendly and easy directions to the leisure facilities.
The leisure receptionist greeted us on our turn at the counter and took the particulars of our booking. We were advised to go through the doors and find the changing rooms. Sadly, and a tip for other bookers, we weren’t told to take towels from them or given our arrival fizz voucher so had to go back for both as well as finding our own way around and working out what was where – this was the only negative of the day, just some more communication needed. Robes and slippers can be hired for a £10 per person deposit from reception which is given back upon return at the end of your visit – definitely a must though to truly make you feel like you’re living the high life!
We ate lunch (not included in the voucher) in the open bar area from a great menu which offered breakfast until 11, sausage/egg/bacon muffins or granola and then a good selection thereafter from beef burgers to fish and chips and some amazing desserts. If you prefer something a little more formal the Thyme restaurant is available for lunch/dinner reservations. Two turkey club sandwiches later and we were heading back to the leisure area ready for our treatments.
The voucher entitled us to a Decleor mini facial and a back massage each – absolute heaven!! Our therapists, Adeela & Chanel, were extremely professional and provided the most relaxing 45 minutes I can remember in a long while! It was a real treat, dim lights, relaxing music and being pampered. We both came out feeling utterly relaxed.
Treatments out the way we were free to use the facilities which included swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The whole area was very clean and well maintained. There were some day beds to recline and do some reading as well as water fountains for hydration. The whole area was quiet and calm despite having other guests frequenting the areas as well, another bonus – all phones are to be left in the changing room lockers (£1 each returnable) so it really was the perfect escape day. After some serious zenning we reluctantly returned to our normal clothes and headed back to the bar upstairs for a last coffee and treat before heading home.
A really fabulous day and a voucher I would highly recommend as it was great value for money! 2 people getting two treatments each, a glass of fizz and use of the leisure facilities – what’s not to love!!
Buying through the Buyagift website was very easy as was redeeming the voucher. This would make a great treat for Mother’s Day.
