As a huge fan of the 1997 British film The Full Monty I was delighted to have been chosen to review the live stage show at the Milton Keynes Theatre. The theatre was easy to find, and really well signposted once you were in Central Milton Keynes. There were plenty of car parking spaces right opposite the theatre. As it was after 6pm the parking was free. The theatre is surrounded by plenty of very nice bars and restaurants, so there is lots of choice if you wanted to eat before or after the show. As we walked into the theatre and made our way to collect our tickets we noticed how clean and spacious the foyer was. We were welcomed by very friendly staff to collect our tickets and we were shown to our seats. Our seats were comfortable, there was lots of leg room and we had a brilliant view.
The show tells a heart-warming story of six unemployed men from Sheffield who decide to perform a male striptease act in order to get some money together, as the main character Gaz (played brilliantly by Gary Lucy) desperately needs money to keep custody of his son Nathan, so he gets his friends together to strip for one night only!
It is very cleverly adapted from film to stage and the audience were laughing all the way through. The cast were fantastic. The scenes between them all were superb and very funny. I didn’t expect it to be as good as the film but it really was. The atmosphere in the audience was great as everyone clapped along to the music (including the men). It was very funny and entertaining. The show isn’t suitable for under 12’s as the cast use lots of swear words and it contains some adult content, but this didn’t make the show distasteful in the slightest, it was hilarious! The finale was amazing and the cast got a well-deserved standing ovation.
All in all it was a brilliant night and I would highly recommend going to see it.
Tickets cost from £13.40 to £37.90 (plus £2.85 transaction fee).
