As we arrived at The Embankment in Bedford, we tried to park in the rear car park which was full, however, we managed to park on the road opposite reasonably easily. The location is very scenic as it sits next to the River Ouse.
Upon entering the building, we were warmly greeted by the host who seated us. It was a very welcoming atmosphere as well. The waitress quickly brought us over drinks and spent time going through the special board with us. I liked the personal touch – most restaurants just leave you to read it yourself, but she took the time to explain it all to us. She was quick and attentive to take our order, and the starters came out in good time.
The starters were well presented, were a good size and very tasty.
Soon after finishing our starters, the main course arrived. I had ordered a ribeye steak with chips and peppercorn sauce. My steak was tender, perfectly cooked and really tasty. My fiancé had a pork sirloin which he really enjoyed. The triple cooked chips which were served with his were so delicious I kept stealing them off his plate.
After looking at the drinks menu on the table, my partner decided to try the Applely Ever After, which was cider and apple juice mixed together. He found it really refreshing and not too strong. It was perfect for a summers evening. To drink, I had cranberry juice and we had water on the table. All the drinks arrived quickly and were well served with ice and fruit. The waitress was attentive topping up the water glasses for us when needed. There was a good range of drinks on offer and a very tempting cocktail list.
For desserts, I had the strawberry pavlova with vanilla icecream and strawberries. I was pretty full at this point but it was so yummy I ate it all. It was very well presented and the strawberries and sauce complimented the pavlova really well. My fiancé had three scoops of double chocolate icecream in a waffle cone. The icecream was really creamy, with chocolate pieces in and it was really nice to have it in a waffle cone.
The service was very good, the staff were smart, friendly, attentive and helpful. The food is quality fresh food at a reasonable price. The restaurant is characteristic, clean, and modern.
We would highly recommend the restaurant to other people, and we would return again.
