I wanted to do something special for my friend’s birthday. He likes traditional food, so when I found The Camelford Arms in Brighton online I was over the moon at their lovely range of pub grub. The pub/restaurant itself was just a short 10 minute walk from the hotel we were staying at. It is a freehouse for over 18’s only (not children allowed due to licencing restrictions) and is dog friendly.
When we walked in, what first struck me was the lovely atmosphere and warm, friendly staff. We were quickly shown to our table. It was comfy with bench style seating. I opted to have chilli con carne as my main. My friend had 10oz sirloin steak & chips. My main cost £10.80 and my friend’s £18.90. We enjoyed our drinks and a chat and it wasn’t long before our mains arrived. Wow! The portion sizes were really generous and the presentation looked amazing. My friend enjoyed his steak, onion rings and salad garnish with chips. My chilli con carne was delicious. It even came with a separate pot containing sour cream and some nachos. Both meals were perfectly cooked and very tasty.
I was so full after my main that I had doubts whether I could manage any dessert. I therefore chose a chocolate sundae to share with my friend. It arrived and was screaming ‘Eat me’. The portion size was generous enough for both myself and my friend to have plenty. It cost £4.95, which is about the same as I am used to paying for a dessert, but I have to say the portion size made it brilliant value.
We left with very full tummies after a lovely meal.
I did just want to mention how clean and tidy the toilet facilities were and that staff were a real credit to the place.
Mains start at around £6 and go up to £18.90. They also offer some starters/sharing dishes/snacks plus some great specials on their blackboard. If you visit between Monday and Wednesday, you can even get a burger, pie, bangers ‘n’ mash or curry meal for £9.99 including a free drink. On Sunday they offer a roast dinner from £13.90.
The Camelford Arms offers great facilities, value, service and food quality all in a good, friendly atmosphere.
