When I was recently asked to read and review Polly Trope’s Cured Meat I have to admit I was a little unsure as to what the book was about as I hadn’t read anything online as I didn’t want to spoil the book by reading spoilers etc… as I like to read a book with completely fresh eyes.
The format I read it in was ebook for my Kindle and I must say I would have much preferred a paperback as I find electronic books quite difficult to read and concentrate on, but that’s my personal preference.
The book is quite a saddening and dark read as it shows someone’s life at their highest and lowest points and really drags the reader into the book with its frank honesty. It shows how much mental illness can affect a person’s life and is a real eye opener.
As a reader I really felt quite moved by this book and found myself wanting to dive into the pages and help (yes that’s how much it got to me).
There is such a taboo with mental illness nowadays and it’s often kept very hush hush so I think Polly has done an amazing job of bringing her story out for people to read and hopefully change their views on people with mental illness.
Polly Trope is an author I will be looking out for in the future, her brutally honest book about her life with drugs, as and escort and mental illness it has really left me feeling a great respect towards her and I cannot wait to read more.
