The popular Tetris game from the 1980s is back in a new exciting way. Games maker John Adams has created a new Tetris game called Tetris Dual.

Tetris Dual is a physical version of an addictive computer game.

The game is a tabletop version. It is a decent size that requires you to insert the pieces into the matrix grid to complete each row to again the points. The LCD screen displays which piece you should insert. Each player has a different colour set of pieces.

The game becomes challenging when you are trying to place your piece next to your previous pieces to gain points or extra points by completing the row. The biggest challenge is making sure you don’t leave any gaps because if you do, you lose points.

The overall winner is the person with the most points at the end.

The matrix grid was easy to clip into the LCD base. For the LCD to work, 3 AA batteries are required.  Once the base & matrix were attached, the game felt very sturdy. I found it difficult to separate the two parts to put the game away in the box.

There are two sets of coloured pieces in the traditional shapes from the original computer game.

There are two different games you can play. The first is a fast-paced speed game with 60 seconds to complete your turn or lose points.

The second is a countdown down. You have the timer running & score extra points for having the most time remaining.

Tetris Dual is an enjoyable family game that is fast-paced and becomes very competitive. It’s great to have a family game that is different to a regular board game. Its not as easy as it looks.

The game would make a lovely Christmas gift or addition to a family games collection to enjoy over Christmas.

The game is recommended for 6+ years. The instructions are pretty complex, and there is a lot to remember. For example, the game doesn’t automatically score you when you drop your piece, and you have to do it yourself by pressing the button. Whilst, also remembering to deduct points if you leave any games.

This was great for improving the mental arithmetic and dexterity of the family.

For children under eight years, I would recommend playing with an adult or older child to make sure the game is played correctly.

I simplified the rules so that my 7 & 4 year old could play together more easily. They won points for completing a row. They both have enjoyed playing together & with us.

My husband and I have loved playing the count down game. Sixty seconds seems like a long time but it goes much quicker than you think.

If you lose any of the pieces, you can buy a replacement set from John Adams direct for under £5. This is a great idea & so helpful.

Overall, I score Tetris Dual 4/5. It is an entertaining game that I highly recommend for family time, that won’t disappoint.
