I went with my 7 year daughter to see Tap Factory at The Hawth theatre in Crawley on 6 October 2017.
Tap Factory is a group of men, consisting of a mixture of four tap dancers a couple of break dancers, a drummer and a man that does aerial acrobatics. It starts with the two dancers who are incredibly funny as they come on stage and start talking really really fast in another language, it gets every one laughing out loud within minutes. The stage is set up with a frame with drums on two different levels and when they all play the drums it’s amazing and very loud making a great electric atmosphere you can’t help but to tap your feet along with the music. The tap dancing is mixed in along with the drums and at times on its own as well, it’s truly breath-taking. All the people are so talented, they’re tap dancers, musicians and comedians all rolled in together.
Because of the title of the show I expected it to be more of just tap dancing but this is a mixture of so much more and it’s so funny. My daughter loved the break dancing the best, she couldn’t keep her eyes of them, she was also wowed by the man doing the acrobatic on the rope he was so amazing to watch. The only thing I thought, was that sometimes it didn’t flow between the different acts and came across a little random at times, but it didn’t take away any of the excitement of the show. The best bit for me was when they poured water onto the top of the drums and the way the water sprayed as they drummed was unlike anything I’ve seen before, it just looked incredible.
The show lasted about 2 hours with an interval, the time just flew by. I think this will be of interest to all ages young and old and it was thoroughly enjoyable. The theatre is great, it’s very easy to find with ample free parking, the staff are always helpful and polite and friendly, a very relaxed atmosphere. I always enjoy visiting here and find there is always a huge variety of shows to suit everyone’s taste.
