I’m probably showing my age but when I was a child I remember having Matey bubble bath to bathe in every night; the sailor shaped bottles were so appealing to children that most 80’s parents would have had no choice but to buy them.
The Child’s farm range seems to share the same marketing approach with a bottle designed to specifically appeal to children on the shelf. That said, I also love the bottle designs and the idea of a range of fragrances to choose from so it is something that would catch my eye regardless.
I was asked to review the Tractor Washbag Gift set. The washbag is a plastic faux leather material and easily wipes clean both inside and out. The zip is sturdy with a little toggle on the end so that little hands can easily open and close the zipper. The front depicts a bright red tractor (what child doesn’t love a tractor?) with splodges of mud, and the pale blue background co-ordinates with the same pale blue on the enclosed bottles. The products inside were sweet orange hair and body wash, and organic raspberry bubble bath, both 250ml.
I love the washbag and so did my children, it certainly made bath time more exciting. The washbag lends itself nicely to a pencil case so that’s it’s new role in our house, although it is pretty tall and chunky so could hold a variety of small toys at home or when going out for the day. I can also see it as a holiday toiletries holder, so a lovely pre-holiday gift.
My children are ages 2, 6 and 9, and the eldest struggles with eczema and skin sensitivities so I was a little concerned about the strong fragrance of the bubble bath. The bottle states that they are paediatrician and dermatologist approved as suitable for sensitive skin and people prone to eczema from newborn upwards, so I decided to chance it.
It is worth noting that these products are registered with the Vegan society and certified by cruelty free international.
I tried the sweet orange hair and body wash on the younger two children’s hair. The boys loved the red bottle with the tractor and pig on the front, to the point I had to remove it so that they didn’t play with it in the bath (they can do that once it’s empty!) The smell was absolutely amazing… provided you like the smell of oranges which we do! It was without doubt, a very sweet orange and smelled good enough to eat so perhaps watch out for that with very little ones. Such a lovely smell is a good distraction if your child isn’t keen on being washed.
As far as we are aware the shampoo doesn’t sting your eyes; it certainly didn’t affect my two boys. Once their hair had dried it was lovely and soft, and you could still faintly smell the orange in their hair but not so much on their skin.
Whilst I cannot risk a fragranced shampoo on my daughters scalp due to a history of localised skin issues, Child’s farm actually make a fragrance free shampoo and conditioner range so this is something that I intend to try with her. She did use it as a body wash without any reaction and she felt that her skin was lovely and soft afterwards. The Childs Farm range itself is fairly large in fact and well worth a browse; there’s a baby range, sun and swim and even skincare to name a few.
The organic raspberry bubble bath was in a blue bottle depicting a pirate-boy swinging on a tyre swing, which again grabbed the boys attention. The bubbles were fluffy and “bubblesome” as my middle child said, and the raspberry aroma was absolutely delicious. The children were very excited and are already asking about the other “flavours” which made me chuckle. I was left with three squeaky clean children and no skin or eczema issues so this product certainly delivers on its promise.
I have to applaud the marketing department, as my daughter is now asking that I look up the other bottle designs for her as she feels that it’s the turn of a girly design next. There are a range of colours and designs so there is bound to be one that appeals.
Whilst I wouldn’t usually consider hair and body products as a Christmas gift for a young child, the gift bag would definitely appeal particularly if gifted with stationary to match so that it could double up as a pencil case. It could actually make a lovely stocking filler gift from Santa. Let’s be honest after the year we have had it might be a nice idea to give this as a pre-holiday present if you have a break booked for next year as we all need something to look forward to, and this “big boy/girl” washbag is quite a sweet idea.
As a parent I always appreciate practical items as they receive so many toys, so I would be happy with this!
I would award this product 5 stars out of 5, as the price point is fair, the products are gorgeous and gentle on precious skin and I cannot think of one negative comment which makes this a good buy!
