My definition of a perfect gift is that something I’ve always wanted to try but it is too far over my everyday spending budget to be able to treat myself. Salon 64’s Liquid Gold Shampoo and Conditioner falls into this category making it high on my Valentines gift list.
Using real gold, It’s a premium product at a premium price so I was extremely excited to have the opportunity to review it and see if it was worth the additional cost. When the Salon64 parcel arrived, I opened it to find two decent sized black & gold boxes, I was happy to see the products inside were large 250ml bottles and not small bottles with lots of fancy packaging. The boxes are beautifully and stylishly designed with gold embossed writing and flecks of gold covering a matt black background. The bottles inside are tubular in shape and fit in the hand perfectly. Again, the bottles themselves are beautifully branded with gold embossed 64 Soho London writing sitting beneath a gold flame/tear drop shaped emblem. There is no doubt about it these products look great on the bathroom shelf.
Both the shampoo and conditioner are made in the UK, cruelty free and vegan so totally ethical and this is promoted on the box. Strangely though the USP of the product, that it’s made using real gold, is not mentioned on the packaging at all and only on the website. Whilst it does say liquid gold shampoo/conditioner on the bottle I feel they have missed a trick here in not highly promoting something so unique.
The products are easy to use with them being dispensed via an excellent push flip lid so that can be used with one hand in the shower, I hate fiddling about with loose lids, so I find these ideal. The Liquid Gold range is typically suited for weak hair that needs strengthening, dry hair, or hair with split ends and that’s exactly my hair type, dry and a bit uncared for. Using the product’s, I found them to be both a rich gold colour with the conditioner being thicker and opaquer, but both having a creamy consistency and lovely citrusy fragrance. The shampoo lathers well and a little goes a long way, leaving a nice clean finish ready for the conditioner. The conditioner glided through my hair leaving each strand silky and free of tangles, it is quite thick so does take a hard squeeze to get it out of the bottle but when it starts going its fine.
Normally it all goes wrong when I dry my hair, immediately becoming frizzy without adding another product but the Liquid Gold regime kept my hair soft and smooth, for different hair types I’d recommend checking out Salon 64’s other two ranges, Viva La Shine & Viva La Moisture both using alternative natural ingredients to promote shine and moisture.
The Liquid Gold Products are fabulous but if you are treating yourself, due to the price, I’d recommend using this maybe once a week in conjunction with your normal shampoo, getting all the glossy looking hair strengthening benefits of the Salon64 products whilst keeping the cost affordable. As a Valentines or any other gift though, its fabulous and I would want to use it all the time!
