We got the Xootz Sketch Ya Deck skateboard for our 5 year old son, who had never been on a skateboard before but has been keen to try one for some time. It was delivered by DX Express, fully assembled, and I was messaged the morning of delivery to let me know a two hour time slot it would arrive between, which it did! It was packaged in a plain brown cardboard box, which was good as it meant it was still a surprise when we gave it to our son! His first impression was how great it looks, with blue PVC wheels and the fact that there are cool monster designs on the bottom which he can colour in to make it his own. It is like two presents in one with both the colouring element and the joy getting to ride it! He wanted to try it out straight away so we headed straight in to our garden (picking up his helmet from his bike on the way). Considering that it was his first try, he was gaining in confidence quite quickly! The board is 28 inches long, which is slightly shorter than some, but makes it a little easier to balance on. This, combined with the fact that it is made out of wood, means that it is quite sturdy as well, making it a great beginners skateboard. The top surface of the board is a layer of non-slip material which helps him keep his feet still when it starts to tilt a little. I would recommend always wearing shoes though! The wheels move quite smoothly and easily, while it is light enough for him to carry around and a good size board for him to stand on. After he was tired from learning how to ride it, he came back inside to sit and colour it, still enjoying the present and making it look even better ready for his next go. There were four marker pens included – we got blue, red, green, and yellow, which were not the same four colours as the picture on the box so I am not sure if it is just pot luck as to which you get, but you could obviously buy more colours if wanted.

Overall, I would say this is a great first skateboard for children aged 4 and over, but I’m not sure how good it would be for those who are more experienced and want to do stunts etc. as our boy is not quite there yet! It is good value for money, fun, and it encourages children to be playing outside and away from screens. Xootz also make several other outdoor toys like scooters and roller skates and their mission is ‘to promote, inspire and encourage kids to get outdoors and have fun without boundaries.’ They want to make sport accessible, have innovative designs, and produce affordable quality products – all of which I think they have managed to do with this skateboard so I would definitely recommend it!
