If you have a little one, or know someone who does, who loves animals and imaginative play, the Nosy Crow Fold-Out + Play: Farm is a lovely gift idea. Combining a book with a 3D farmyard, it offers much more than simply turning pages when reading a book. With its colourful illustrations, farm animals, stickers and interactive play pieces, it gives children the chance to create their own little farm and make up their own adventures and stories. Whether you’re looking for a birthday present or a Christmas gift, this is something a little different for children who love getting creative.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I love the idea of combining a book with hands-on play. I’ve never seen anything like it before, and I think it’s brilliant. Rather than being something children look through once and put away, this transforms into a little farmyard they can explore and enjoy. It’s a lovely way to encourage imagination while keeping little ones entertained. It was lovely watching my grandson get creative and tell his own stories, which became more imaginative each time he played with it.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
The book folds out to create a fantastic 3D farm complete with stand-up characters and animals. It also includes press-out pieces to assemble into farm equipment, along with stickers to decorate the scene. An instruction sheet is included, along with a QR code linking to assembly videos to help put everything together. What a great concept.
DESIGN AND STYLE
The farm has a colourful theme, which makes it a very appealing playset. I particularly like the fact that children can arrange the animals, position the characters and decorate their farm, giving them the freedom to create their own stories rather than following just one storyline.
QUALITY AND DURABILITY
The board-book format provides a sturdy base for the fold-out farm. The removable play pieces can be pressed out and assembled. I would recommend keeping all the pieces together after use to avoid losing anything.
EASY SETUP AND IMAGINATIVE PLAY
Some assembly is required, particularly for the farm equipment, but the instructions and online videos are very helpful. The videos offer something different, as little ones can watch what is being done and copy the steps themselves. Once everything is ready, children can let their imaginations run wild, creating farmyard adventures and deciding what happens next.
DEVELOPMENTAL BENEFITS
I’m a big fan of any game or toy that offers developmental benefits, and this playset has plenty. Pressing out pieces, assembling equipment and positioning animals can help develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Decorating the farm encourages creativity, while inventing stories can help develop language skills and imagination.
CONVENIENCE AND STORAGE
One feature I really like is the storage drawer, as it provides somewhere to keep all the play pieces when everything is packed away. It also makes the set easier to take along when travelling.
VALUE FOR MONEY
At £20.00, this offers more than just a traditional book to read. It combines reading, building and imaginative play in one package. The convenience of having everything kept together, along with the developmental benefits this playset offers, really does make it worth every penny.
