Roseacre is a murder mystery presented by Square Peg Theatre.

I love going to the theatre and having heard this play way based on stories such as ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ and ‘The Killing’ I was really looking forward to watching the show.

The Waterside Arts Centre in Sale is easy to reach by motorway and we managed to park nearby at the train station car park for free, as it was after 6pm. It was just a short walk away and a pit stop in one of the local bars for a drink.

A body is found after a demonstration at a fracking site in the village of Roseacre and an undercover police officer must uncover the truth through a tangled web of lies, deception, betrayal and murder.

The play was shown in a very small theatre with an intimate audience of 28. The four members of the cast, Emma Romy-Jones, Dominic Myerscough, Kate Robinson and Michael White used mime, speech and co-ordinated movement to tell this character-driven tale. They took on a range of roles, but this wasn’t always clear and this sometimes became quite confusing. However, the acting was quite good and I did engage throughout, I just found it quite slow going.

Overall, it was an average performance which was made better by the brilliant sound technician Owen Rafferty. He was completely on point and did not falter throughout.

Rating: 3/5
