My husband and I, together with our 2 year old twin boys visited the Menzies Cambridge Hotel at the weekend, staying in an executive family room. Straight away our children were right at home, checking themselves in with crayons and colouring pads at the reception desk. I was really impressed that we were also offered drinks and ice-cream for the boys after a long journey on a hot day. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

The room we stayed in was really comfortable and we were delighted to find Cbeebies on the television. Many parents of toddlers will appreciate that In The Night Garden is an important part of the bedtime routine.

We made good use of the leisure facilities while we were there – taking the boys for their very first swim. It was an excellent place for a swim. We didn't need to worry about the stress of toddlers in a hectic changing room. We simply got them ready in our hotel room and padded them back wrapped in towels afterwards. The pool area had a shallow pool for little ones, as well as a deep pool for grown-ups. It was really warm and there were floats provided for the boys to use in the pool.

We booked an early dinner at 5pm. The menu choices were excellent – there was plenty to choose from, and also a carvery if you were eating a bit later in the evening. The food was quickly served and simple – this is really important when you're feeding small children. The waiter also had the wherewithal to bring out the boys meals as soon as they were ready, rather than waiting for all courses. We really appreciated this as swimming is hard work and no one wants to dine with hungry, crabby toddlers!

For our first night away in a hotel with the boys, I was surprised how easy bedtime was. They were obviously comfortable in the beds, warm and felt safe. They were asleep in ten minutes flat, leaving us to spend a very chilled out evening watching films. I went up to the lounge bar to order a bottle of wine. It was nice that straight away I was offered help to carry drinks back to our hotel room. The hotel lounge bar is beautiful – there is a great big veranda overlooking the golf course. It is obviously a lovely place have drinks or lunch after a hard morning playing golf!

The great hotel black-out curtains meant that everyone had a great night’s sleep. I was surprised how quiet the room was too – often hotels can be very noisy places.

Breakfast was by far our favourite meal – the hotel offers an enormous buffet with everything from a full English to waffles and muffins. Between the four of us we demolished fresh fruit salads, cereals, muffins, toast, Danish pastries and an English breakfast.

Overall I was thoroughly pleased with our experience at the Menzies Hotel. I would definitely go back again – and I would certainly recommend it to friends. It is a little on the expensive side for one night away, but it was very stress-free, and we were well fed. I was just sad that we ate too much at breakfast time to go for a second swim before checking out!
