I am very much a lip gloss wearer, but have started to move onto lipstick more recently for the “staying power” so I was really looking forward to trying the Odylique Lipstick. I was sent colour number 15, which according to the website is Praline. I am a huge fan of black and white packaging, and the hint of silver really makes this product appealing. Once out of the box, the silver and black tube opens up easily and closes with a firm click, so there’s little chance of the lid popping off in your bag on a night out! The lipstick moves up and down smoothly with a twist, and is a good-sized chunky tube.
The colour wasn’t quite what I expected as it appears to be a little darker than the Praline shade shown on the website. I suspect it may have been labelled incorrectly, but I am unsure which shade it may be. As you click into the different shades on the website there is a handy colour reference where a tester of each colour has been rolled along a ladies’ arm so that you see the true colour and compare the shades. Whilst this is handy, it obviously cannot replicate the appearance on lips.
However, the colours’ shown don’t quite match up with the photograph of all of the lipsticks in a row. For example on the “arm” photograph, the neutral praline number 15 shade was shown to be lilac, so I am a little baffled and suspect there has been an oversight here. Uncertainty aside, the lipstick sent to me is still a nice slightly brown shade. Whilst it isn’t a colour I would usually choose, it does actually look rather nice.
It smooths over the lips with ease and feels moisturizing and creamy; certainly no dryness, cracking or flakiness after an hour or two of wear. Compared with a high street lipstick which I use, my lips appeared smoother and less creased which was a real positive for me as nobody wants their lips to appear as aging. It lasted really well. I did the “cup of tea test” and the lipstick did fade as I would expect, but some colour did remain. I had only applied one coat too, bear in mind.
You can also lightly sweep the product over your cheeks and blend in for a natural pop of colour. I didn’t attempt this as the shade that I tried wouldn’t have worked with my skin-tone sadly, but it’s a fantastic idea and a little moisture for the cheeks as well.
What I love about this product is the ethos of the company; no toxic chemicals, synthetic dyes, lakes or carmine. It is 100% natural, vegetarian and 86% organic. Made with beeswax and shea butter, with organic plant oils means that you benefit from really soft lips as well as beautiful shades. These are great for people with sensitive skin and allergies as they are all natural, and let’s be honest we are so much more aware of ingredients nowadays that we don’t want any chemicals near our lips and mouth!
For me the price point of £18 does feel a little steep, but if you have issues with skin sensitivity and you want products that are natural then you have to expect to pay extra for it. Plus, I cannot fault the quality and final result.
I would award this lipstick 4.5 stars out of 5.
