When I was asked to review the Sodapop Bluetooth Speaker I was intrigued to see what it would be like. Sodapop is a portable Bluetooth speaker in a bottle and has been newly launched to the market for 2025. Before receiving the Sodapop I took a look at the website and press release to find out more about the concept. I found out that the Sodapop speaker was designed in Norway by three friends who wanted to create a low-cost, lightweight compact speaker with great sound. The bottle apparently helps to achieve this, as when it is attached to the speaker it enhances the volume and sound quality of the speaker and increases the loudness of the bass. Even more interestingly any soda bottle, not just the one provided, can be used to achieve this effect.
When the Sodapop arrived, I was immediately impressed with the sturdy cardboard packaging, which was brightly coloured and appealing with a simple design featuring the tag line “unbottle the bass” on the lid. I was pleased that there was no plastic or unnecessary packaging. I received an orange coloured Sodapop, which is the Sunburn colourway, the box was coordinated to match the speaker. Sodapop is also available in blue (Skinny Dip) and I assume this would come with a blue box. Inside the box was the speaker, bottle, a drawstring carry bag and a USB-c charging cable (no plug).
The first thing I noticed was that the Sodapop feels good quality and is made of sturdy plastic. The speaker itself is very compact, measuring just 16cm by 7.5cm and weighing only 300g making it very portable and easy to pop into a bag for going out for the day or on holiday. The bottle-shaped case is also very sturdy with a screw up base allowing the speaker to fit inside for storage and with a screw on bottle lid.
I was surprised that there were no instructions or details included in the box, although it was fairly straightforward to connect to the Sodapop and use it. The speaker has one rubber button which turns it on and adjusts the volume. There is another rubber covered port which for USB-c charging or for connecting the speaker manually using an aux connection. Then finally there is a larger rubber covered hole that turns the speaker into a bottle-top so the bottle can be screwed in.
My teenage son was delighted with the Sodapop and very happy to try it out (I imagine our neighbours may not have been so happy to hear it). It was very easy to connect to the speaker using Bluetooth, simply turn the speaker on and pair with it. The Sodapop speaker on its own produces very impressive sound, considering it is so small. The music was clear and pretty loud. There is also the option to use the speaker inside the bottle with the lid off, which would be ideal for protecting the speaker when out and about, particularly if it is taken to the beach where there is a risk or getting sand and water on it. This produced similar sound to the speaker on its own. The main unique feature of the Sodapop is being able to connect it to a bottle to enhance the bass. This worked amazingly well, the difference in sound with the bottle connected was huge. Although the music was at the same volume it sounded much louder when the bottle was attached and the bass was well and truly pumping. I admit I was sceptical when I read about this effect, but it truly makes such a difference and seems like a simple but clever idea to attach a bottle I wonder why nobody has done it before!
You can also use the Sodapop with any bottle, not just the one provided. We tried it out with both a small 500ml bottle and a larger 2 litre bottle and both had a fairly similar effect.
The Sodapop battery will last for up to 30 hours and is rechargeable using USB-c. We haven’t needed to charge ours yet so I can’t vouch for this, but we’ve used it a fair bit and it’s still going strong at the moment.
Overall, I am very impressed with the Sodapop speaker. It is so cleverly designed and visually appealing and works exceptionally well. We will definitely be packing this to take on holiday this year (and my son has already staked his claim for taking it to the beach with his friends as well). The price seems quite expensive for such a small speaker, but I would say it is definitely worth it.
