Juice makes and sells a variety of mobile phone charging equipment along with audio and gaming accessories, including a range of wireless and Bluetooth speakers. I was very pleased to be asked to review the Juice Boom Pro XL Bluetooth speaker and my teenage son was very keen to test it out.

The speaker was delivered very promptly in a large solid box, packed with a huge amount of bubble wrap so there was no risk of it being damaged in transit. The speaker itself was packed in transparent packaging, so it was nicely displayed, the box also had a good amount of information about the speaker printed on the back, including a product overview which was really helpful.

Inside the box was the speaker, a USB-C cable, a 3.5mm AUX cable and an instruction manual. I was impressed to see that the speaker is made from 100% recycled post-consumer waste plastic that had been collected from oceans, beaches and landfill sites. This fits with Juice’s mission “to be a totally carbon neutral company, creating a waste free world and doing business that doesn’t cost the earth”. The packaging was also recyclable which was another bonus point.

The Boom Pro XL speaker measures approximately 280 x 120mm so is quite large but relatively light weight. It can be used either vertically or horizontally. It is also splash proof (according to the packaging this includes powerful waterjets although I haven’t tested this!) making it ideal for using outdoors for example at parties or on holiday. I would say it is a bit large to be used as a portable speaker, however my son is very keen to take it to the beach with his friends in his rucksack!

I found the speaker very user friendly. The instructions are clear and I particularly like the fact it has a control panel on the speaker, with buttons for volume and track control, power on and off and play/pause meaning you can control the music direct from the speaker instead of your device. There is also an LED light showing when the speaker is on. I also like the fact that there is a voice telling you that the power is on and when Bluetooth has connected.

There is also an option to connect the speaker to a device using the AUX input port as well as a slot for a micro SD card and USB-A input alongside the USB-c charging port. When fully charged the speaker will last for around 18 hours playtime, with it taking around 4 hours to charge (there is an LED light that changes from red to blue to show you when the battery is full). We are still on the first charge so I can’t confirm that this is the case.

In terms of sound, the speaker has 2 x 10w speakers and is (in my opinion and I’m sure my neighbours’) very loud when connected to my son’s phone by Bluetooth and even louder when connected with the AUX cable! The sounds is clear and good quality and we are very pleased with it.

I would say that the Juice Boom ProXL speaker is great value for money, retailing at £39.99 it is reasonably priced for the quality of sound and the features. My son is delighted with this speaker and I think he has already claimed it as his own!
