Room On The Broom Corn Maze At Twycross Zoo Review

DISCLOSURE - THIS EXPERIENCE WAS GIFTED TO THE REVIEWER AND GUEST/S FOR THE PURPOSES OF WRITING THE REVIEW. Reviewed by Mel Randle Calling all Julia Donaldson fans! Something very exciting has arrived at Twycross Zoo this October, just in time for half-term and Halloween! Grab your wellies (if we ever have any rain!) and jump on your broomsticks, because the Room On The Broom Corn Maze has landed (sprouted), to celebrate the book’s 25th anniversary, and will be flying off again on 1st November, so that doesn’t give you long…. For those of you who don’t know, Twycross is already home to The Gruffalo Discovery Land, a chance to walk through the deep dark wood and relive the classic Julia Donaldson adventure, so October is the perfect time to visit for the first time to enjoy both story adventures with an extra bit of magic thrown in! The Gruffalo Discovery Land is included in normal zoo admission, whilst the Room on the Broom Corn Maze, as a special event, requires a separate booking for an allocated time slot. Each child costs £5 (adults free) and they receive a special Room On The Broom tote bag to take into the maze with them, collect sweet treats along the way and then take home as a special souvenir. They are also given a trail map to follow, activities to do and stamps to collect. At the weekend my husband and I took two 10 year olds. Now although we are all on the wrong side of the target age group, we all still had a lovely time, meandering through the maze with fond memories of when we shared the story together at bedtime. But this event is definitely one geared towards younger children who are just going to be giddy with excitement. The maze has been grown close to The Gruffalo Discovery Land so you can get fully immersed in Donaldson’s world. It has been decorated with pumpkins for an added Halloween feel, and around each twist and turn you will follow the story and find all your favourite characters. It is not a complicated maze that you are going to get lost in for hours - the experience takes around 25 mins depending how much time you want to spend in it, but through the eyes of a three year old, the excitement builds around every corner. There are lots of opportunities to take photos- including the chance to take a photo in the dragon’s mouth, and a special official photo spot in the centre of the maze where staff will picture you on the witch's broom (purchase for an additional fee). There are also opportunities throughout the day to meet both the Witch and the Gruffalo in The Gruffalo Discovery Land (please check with the zoo to confirm availability). The maze is fully accessible as is the rest of the zoo, however just bear in mind that it is essentially a field, so whereas every effort has been made to make it wheelchair/scooter friendly, the weather may make access more difficult! We thought this attraction was a lovely addition to our day at the zoo. It is also worth remembering that Twycross is a charity and conservation zoo so all entry fees support their work. There is plenty to do and see to make a full family day of it. As well as Julia Donaldson attractions, there are the animals, various play parks, eateries and picnic spots and an indoor soft play (separate booking required). So all in all, half-term and Halloween have been sorted in one fell swoop! Rating: 5/5 The Room On The Broom Corn Maze is open daily from 3rd October to 1st November 2026.Cost of £5 per child which includes special Room On The Broom tote bag.Tickets for the zoo must be purchased separately For more information and booking, please visit https://twycrosszoo.org/
