I thought these eggs would be great for my baby grandson as they looked like a good safe sensory toy.
They are really colourful and each egg has a different number of holes of different shapes in the bottom. This could help with shape recognition and counting as the child gets older. The eggs are made to be twisted apart, although I found this quite difficult, maybe deliberate so that a child cannot get into any contents from inside and put into their mouth. Once apart the eggs can then be filled with a variety of natural ingredients for example lemon, lavender, garlic, to give scented experiences or musical interest by filling with seeds, lentils etc and making into little shakers.

The eggs can also be used in water play – either in the bath or water play outside. They make excellent squirters or can be used if they are apart to fill and empty the eggs, pouring water etc. The eggs and the egg box container are made out of soft safe food grade silicone, so no worries about a child chewing them. The box makes storage and carrying around very easy. They can be washed or put in the dishwasher.

My grandson seemed to enjoy playing with these eggs – spent a lot of time just putting them in and out of the box. We were telling him all the colours as he was doing this. He liked the feel of the eggs and was exploring them with his mouth.

On a different day I filled 3 of the eggs with sensory aroma things – lemon zest, dried lavender and flakes of soap to give him different smells. The other three I filled with items to make them into shakers – lentils, some seeds and hoop cereals. These gave different sounds when being shaken which he really liked. He still liked putting them in his mouth but the eggs are safe once put back together and I wouldn’t leave a small child alone whilst playing with them.

Once he had played with them with things inside I took them apart again and let him play with them in the bath. I left 2 apart so he could pour and fill the eggs. The other 4 we used as squirters – with different holes at the bottom the amount of water and the shape of the squirt were different. He was squealing when being squirted – loved this activity. Once the weather is better we will definitely use outdoors with the water tray.

Overall I think these eggs will help with fine motor skills, cognitive learning as well as sounds and smells, colours and numbers. A great little toy and not too expensive if you can get them for £15.
