Like many mums I struggle to think of interesting and tasty meals for my family to enjoy, we have become stuck in a rut of buying and cooking the same meals and have been looking for quick easy ideas for midweek family meals.
I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to try the Schwartz limited edition mixes. I received the following:
- Schwartz Grill Mates Brazilian BBQ Smokey & Zesty Marinade Mix (Limited Edition)
- Schwartz BBQ Chicken Sizzler Summer Recipe Mix (Limited Edition)
- Schwartz Lemon & Thyme Chicken Tray-Bake Summer Recipe Mix (Limited Edition)
My youngest son, aged 6 really enjoys trying new things and was very excited to try all of the meals. My elder son aged 7 is a little fussy and was not so keen and my 12 year old daughter, myself and my husband were keen to try something different. The first pack that we tried was the Schwartz Grill Mates Brazilian BBQ Smokey & Zesty Marinade Mix (Limited Edition). I marinaded the chicken for only fifteen minutes as I had limited time, added onion and peppers (not for the fussy 7 year old!) and made chicken skewers. They were completely ready to eat within 50 minutes. The directions on the packet were simple to follow and fool-proof. Unlike with some packet mixes that I have tried before, the result was a fresh tasting meal; the flavours of lime and chilli in particular came through clearly. I am glad to say that all of the family really enjoyed this meal which was simply served with rice and made a quick evening meal for midweek. It would be equally tasty for a barbecue.
The next pack that we tried was the Lemon & Thyme Chicken Tray-Bake Summer Recipe Mix (Limited Edition). As we do not eat chicken thighs we made it with chicken breast. Again the instructions were fool proof and all that was required in addition to the mix was baby potatoes, oil, carrots and onion. This was even easier than the previous meal – all the ingredients were placed in an oven tray and mixed with the Schwartz recipe mix and oil then put into the oven for 40 minutes. The result was a delicious tasty family meal. The fussy 7 year old enjoyed the flavour of the chicken although he refuses to eat potatoes or carrots! The other four of us really enjoyed the meal. At this time of year I would not generally cook casserole style dishes but this dish had a lighter taste to eat suitable for spring/ summer evenings.
Finally we made the Schwartz BBQ Chicken Sizzler Summer Recipe Mix (Limited Edition). We made this one on a Saturday evening instead of a takeaway and added noodles. This was the quickest of all the packs and was ready to eat in approximately fifteen minutes – much quicker (and cheaper) than waiting for a takeaway! It was very tasty and again the different flavours within the mix were evident. It was enjoyed by all the family who have asked for it next weekend again!
Overall I was really impressed by these mixes. I expected a powdery artificial taste but was delighted to find that they all tasted fresh and the different flavours shone through. It was great to try different flavours and simple recipes that were both quick and easy and that all the family could enjoy together. Other than the mixes the ingredients are all usually in my cupboards and fridge. I will be trying out other Schwartz mixes and will always have a selection available in my cupboard to make meals more tasty and varied.
Our family favourite was the Schwartz Grill Mates Brazilian BBQ Smokey & Zesty Marinade Mix (Limited Edition) but they were all delicious.
