It’s the time of year I start looking for ideas for Christmas presents for all my family and friends. I like to begin buying early, gradually putting gifts away ready. When it comes to buying presents for all the children, I always think a toy that allows them to become immersed and use their imagination is lovely.

My children, especially my youngest son, absolutely adores animals and nature. He has collected toy animals and play sets for a few years as he loves to act out stories with them. A brand we have come to love above others is Schleich. They have a huge selection of animal figures and accessories to play with in many different themes. We have found the products are pricier than other brands but they are worth paying extra for how well made the toys are.

My son was very excited to add the Schleich Majungasaurus to his collection. I can’t say that I had ever heard of this dinosaur before but my little dino expert knew all about this huge, strong but slow dinosaur. The toy arrived well packaged in plenty of bubble wrap to keep it protected and in a Schleich branded cardboard box. There was also the latest catalogue inside so of course he’s pointed out which sets are going on his Christmas list!

The Majungasaurus is from the Schleich Dinosaurs theme world and it is suitable for 4-12 years. I definitely think this will appeal to younger children as they can unleash their imagination using this in their small world play. It can be played with alone or added to other toys or sets. My son enjoyed playing with it in both ways. My older son enjoyed getting involved too, making up games and stories. So, I think the recommended age range is spot on.

The Majungasaurus is a lot larger than I was expecting and I’m amazed by the quality, it is certainly robust and able to withstand lots of playing. The attention to detail is also incredible. The figures are modelled in detail so as to look as realistic as possible. I love how the figure is textured with a spiky back, detailing on the claws and even a moveable jaw with little individual teeth in its mouth. So, of course I’ve had my fingers chomped a few times!

The Schleich Majungasaurus is priced at £18.99 and although that may seem quite a lot, the quality can’t be faulted, and the toy is going to be enjoyed by my son for a long time. It would make a beautiful Christmas present to start or add to a Schleich collection or for any little dinosaur lover.
