Last night myself and guest visited the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton to watch the Russian State Ballet perform Swan Lake.

The performance of Swan Lake was simply stunning in every which way. The principle ballerinas were the most awe inspiring I have ever seen. We simply loved every minute of this show and the Orchestra of Siberia were fantastic. I would have liked all the cast to have been introduced including the costume designer and choreographer.

The Russian State Ballet of Siberia gave us a wonderful version of Swan Lake… moments were just breath-taking and it was easy to lose yourself in the performance. The greatest romantic ballet of all time is brought to life by Tchaikovsky’s haunting and unforgettable score. From the impressive splendour of the Palace Ballroom to the moon-lit lake where swans glide in perfect formation this compelling tale of tragic romance has it all.

From Odile, the temptress in black as she seduces the Prince by spinning with captivating precision to the spellbound purity of the swan queen, Odette as she flutters with emotional intensity, the dual role of Odette/Odile is one of ballet’s most unmissable technical challenges.

The Russian State Ballet and Orchestra of Siberia formed in 1981.The Russian State Ballet of Siberia has quickly established itself as one of Russia’s leading ballet companies and has built an international reputation for delivering performances of outstanding quality and unusual depth. The soloists and corps de ballet are superb and never fail to delight audiences with their breath taking physical ability and dazzling costumes.

This performance is a wonderful treat for all the family.

The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton has just had the foyer updated and is very spacious. The staff are wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly. Facilities include the Circle Bar and lounge is on the first floor and is accessible by stairs. It is the ideal place to meet before enjoying a show. The Circle Bar is predominately used by people seated in the Front and Rear Circle. The Balcony Bar is on the third floor and is open when the Balcony is used.
