ROARR! Dinosaur Adventure Review

Reviewed by Louise Watts

There is nothing about dinosaurs worth knowing that my 4-year-old son doesn’t already know! He is dinosaur obsessed, so what better way to spend a day in the Easter Holidays than at the Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure in Norwich! My son is so obsessed that I decided to accept this review and travel 160 miles just to go and experience all that there is on offer.

We arrived at the Adventure to be greeted with a lovely lady attending to people in the queue. The adventure offers a height admission policy rather than an age, so if you are 90cm or above then you pay for entry. Under 90cm are free. Admission today was £14.95 for an adult or a child over 90cm if you book online or £16.95 on the gate. My son was given a wristband to show that he was tall enough for the activities inside, we were given some activity sheets and a map and entered the park full of excitement.

On face value looking at the map the park didn’t seem to be that big, but this was not the case at all. We headed straight for the dinosaur walk and were very surprised with how big it was. Along the way, we were also met by the Mad Hatter from Alice In Wonderland. This is the Easter theme and it was done really well. Lots of wonderland themed items along the way including the opportunity to have tea at the Mad Hatter’s tea party table. As we got to the bottom of the dinosaur walk there were plenty more things to do including high ropes (included in the entry price), a deer safari (£2 each) and animal encounters. There were also various eating points and snacks available. We decided to do the deer safari first as the next one was departing soon and then do the high ropes and then see the Dino of the Day show at 2pm.

The crew working on the deer safari were brilliant and it was lovely to be given the opportunity to see the deer up close. The lady talking was called Jennifer and she was extremely knowledgeable and informative – thoroughly worth £2.

Next were the high ropes. I was filled with trepidation when I realised that in order for my son to take part, I had to do it with him! As I do not like heights, this was going to be a big challenge!! The minimum height for this was 1m and all children between 1m and 1.2m need to be accompanied by an adult. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly pleased when all harnessed and ready to go, my son decided he didn’t want to do it after all! The course looked fab however and the children and adults all seemed to be having a great time. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were certainly not at all phased when my son changed his mind.

We saw the Dino of the Day show at 2pm and the young lady and man who did this talk with the kids were brilliant. They engaged the children and were so good at talking with them on their level. The young man exuded enthusiasm and knowledge.

We needed to change the focus quickly as it was clear that he was still disappointed that he hadn’t done the high ropes, so we turned to completing the sheet we had been given on entry where we knew he would get a medal if he completed it. We headed up the Neanderthal walk and back up to the top end of the park where we found the Jurassic Golf – this occupied him for ages and we did 3 rounds in total!

Still desperate to complete our activity sheet, we headed for X-Tinction where you can be a palaeontologist and uncover dinosaur fossils. This was great fun and we found some amazing items in the sand!

After that was the Maze and the Bongo Telecom. By now it was near closing time, so we headed to the photo viewing point and bought a package of photos, very reasonably priced for £20. We then collected the medal for completing the sheet and had a look in the gift shop.

The day was excellent. I am only sorry that we do not live close enough to take advantage of the annual pass for £100.

I would thoroughly recommend here to any dinosaur mad children. The age range is very wide due to the high ropes and the varied activities available. We had an amazing day out where every member of staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. It was well worth the 320-mile round trip. Thank you for such an incredible day – we will be returning sometime soon!
