Best Years Knitted Dinosaur – Diplodocus Review

Reviewed by Margaret Mann

My first thought when opening the parcel was “Wow, this is orange!” The parcel arrived well wrapped upon picking up from my local sorting office, the parcel required a signature.

The parcel consisted of a large “mummy” plus small “baby” dinosaur. The baby had a rattle inside.

Both items were of a knitted design, looking almost hand knitted, very well made with pleasant looking faces. The necks were very robust (the real diplodocus had a very long neck) and it looks as though these would remain upright and not flop over after a long period of time. Both dinosaurs stood up on their own without falling over.

The “baby” (RRP: £9.99) was despatched first to a friend’s one-year old baby. He woke up to the dinosaur in his cot and was heard talking away to it and waving it about. He carried it around everywhere (he’s just started to be mobile) and generally enjoyed holding and playing with it.

The big test for the durability of baby Dino was when a very enthusiastic one year old was having a nappy change and the poor dinosaur got (how to put this politely) into an area he shouldn’t! A quick sponge down was needed and was none the worse for the experience! The toy is machine washable but came up pretty well with just the sponge down. It looks as though it would stand up well in the washing machine.

The larger dinosaur (RRP: £24.99) travelled with us up to Scotland to visit our (almost) three-year-old granddaughter. Upon receipt of it she was fairly indifferent about it and I thought “this will be a very short review!” Our granddaughter was obviously excited to see us and not really bothered about anything only seeing us because the following morning she started playing with the dinosaur. It was taken out with us to a local animal park and on the way, she informed me that the dinosaur was called Dave! I tried to get her to change her mind and maybe change it to Dippy but no, Dave it was. As far as she was concerned the dinosaur wasn’t a mummy as the little one was back in England with a one year old. Dave remained in the car whilst we went around the park, it was a bit damp and drizzly and Granny didn’t fancy walking around carrying a bright orange diplodocus!

Dave was greeted fondly on our return to the car and dragged indoors once returning home. Our granddaughter insisted that Dave had four eyes! She wouldn’t have it that the dinosaur had two eyes and the others were in fact nostrils.

All in all, the dinosaurs have been a great success. They are well made, robust enough for babies and toddlers and can stand up to the rigours of life in the hands of small children and babies.
