Color Wow Color Security Shampoo and Conditioner Review

I’ve been having my hair coloured for many years and have tried many different shampoos and conditioners during this time with varying results at keeping my colour looking fresh, so I was interested to see if Color Wow’s Color Security Shampoo and Conditioner would have good results.

From looking at the information available about Color Wow products I could see that they are different from other colour products as they do not leave any residues on the hair to dull colour which other products do. They do not contain silicones or natural oils, conditioning gums; pearlising agents or waxes, sulfates or parabens. And they claim to be as gentle to the hair colour as water. With this in mind I was very optimistic about the results I would experience.

When the products arrived, they were really nicely packaged in a sturdy box wrapped in tissue paper so it was like receiving a gift.

Both products came in squeezy tubes, 250ml in size and looked like quality products which made me want to use them. The design was clean and clear and there was a good amount of information about the products and directions for use on them.

Firstly, I tried the Color Security Shampoo (RRP: £17.50 250ml), this was clear like gel and had a nice fresh smell. I soon discovered that a little goes a long way as it lathered really quickly so I made a mental note to use just a small squeeze of shampoo next time. It was easy enough to rinse out though! I found that the shampoo did make my hair feel very clean, although I was a little alarmed that it may have made it dry and stripped my colour as my hair felt “squeaky” after using it, however undeterred I moved on to the conditioner.

From the product information I can see that there are two types of Color Security Conditioner (RRP: £18.50 250ml) available, one for fine to normal hair and one for normal to thick hair. At this point I should make it clear that I have very thick hair but was sent the fine to normal conditioner to try so this could have had an impact on how well it conditioned my hair. The conditioner is a very light consistency and had very little smell, it wasn’t thick and creamy like other conditioners I’ve used in the past so when I worked it through my hair it didn’t feel like it would be doing a great deal. However, it was very easy to rinse out.

After drying and styling my hair like usual I was pleased with the results and my worries were unfounded, my colour still looked the same and my hair was nice and shiny. Although, as the conditioner had very little fragrance (which is probably a good thing as that would have left residue on my hair) and I do like my hair to smell nice after I’ve washed it, I would have to deduct a point for this.

Overall, I was pleased with the results from using this shampoo and conditioner and despite initial reservations it did appear to have positive results on my hair’s appearance.

I would give the Color Wow products a 4/5 overall.

I have marked it down a point because of the lack of fragrance of the conditioner and because it did not leave my hair as soft as I would have hoped.

Rating: 4/5
