The Rhythm of the Dance Christmas Special is currently touring the U.K. and I was fortunate enough to watch at The Hawth Theatre in Crawley last night.

Whilst it’s only mid November, it was wonderful to spend a festive night watching this hugely talented cast on stage. With a mix of traditional Irish songs interspersed with some Christmas favourites you were transported to Ireland at winter. With wintry scenes being projected to the back of the stage it made you feel cosy and festive and set the tone for the show perfectly.

With a mixture of hard and soft shoe dances, the choreography was wonderful. Every single dancer on stage was perfectly in time and never missed a single beat. Their energy on stage was high throughout the entire show and never slipped once. With microphones set on stage you were able to hear the beat of the shoes clearly and this really added to the show. It’s clear to see that the talent on stage is huge and includes some of the best Irish dancers in the business.

Alongside the phenomenal dancing a traditional Irish band play on the stage and they were as brilliant as the dancers. Creating wonderful music which complimented the show brilliantly they were outstanding. You are also treated to live vocal performances which were sung in the unique and beautiful traditionally Irish style.

Christmas favourites were intertwined with more traditional style songs creating the perfect set list for the show. The audience are invited to clap along to some of the higher energy numbers and this really added to the atmosphere in the theatre. It made you feel a part of the show and the enthusiasm shown by the audience reiterated how much everyone was enjoying themselves.

The costumes throughout the show were stunning with a mix of Christmas sparkle and festive dresses to more traditional Irish style. Each costume was as fabulous as last. I particular enjoyed the movement of some of the longer softer traditional skirts which really added to the dances and worked perfectly with the choreography to add that special something.

Lighting was used cleverly throughout the show making each scene atmospheric. Dancers were also cleverly spotlighted so that you could clearly see their shoes, and this enabled you to appreciate the dancers impeccable timing all the more.

The Hawth Theatre in Crawley was a wonderful venue to host the show and as always, the staff there are very welcoming. With a huge car park, it’s easy to access and also offers a wonderful bar and restaurant which is perfect for a pre-show meal.

The whole show felt really festive and was a treat to watch. If you love watching phenomenal dancing and enjoy great music this show is definitely one for you!

The show is touring through the U.K. for the rest of the year at a number of venues. Last night there wasn’t an empty seat in the house and so I’d recommend booking your tickets as soon as you’re able to in order to be sure not to miss out on this wonderful show.
