This week i was sent an interactive track system called Gravitrax starter kit which i had never heard of, but then i am a bit behind with new technology. It’s a box full of fun and to experience the power of gravity. I have just the grandson to enjoy using this. It’s made by a well known company, Ravensburger, which is a German company founded in 1883 but are very well known. Ravensburger also make jigsaws, games, books, craft items and lots more besides. They even have a face book page. I have had several of the jigsaws but have never seen this Gravitrax set. My grandson loved it as this is the starter set but still has over 100 components and 18 different elements, so this will get him off to a good start and see how he gets on with it and we can buy add on sets. The age range is from eight to ninety nine so even grandad can play!!! It comes in a really nice sturdy box so can be put away time after time. The components which makes the track up are all in separate plastic bags as well as six metal ball. Three are silver and there are also red blue and green balls. There is also a booklet with the instructions which is easy to follow and tells you what each component is and called such as free fall. splash, there’s even a magnetic cannon. You can make nine track systems in three levels of difficulty and each level is indicated by three different symbols and colours.
It looked complicated to me but my twelve year old grandson had other ideas and soon got the hang of it and made several different tracks, experimenting with gravity and problem solving while having fun …using magnetism to propel your ball or sphere to the finish which he really enjoyed making. It was so much fun I had to have a go too. He says he wants to save up for more sets which are easily bought from most places like Amazon, Argos and such places.
This reminds me of the marble runs you can buy with the plastic tubes that can be hard to put together but this is much more addictive and so educational as a system working out how the balls will run and race round the tracks. It kept him entertained for ages and kept him off his electronic games and phone. During lock down its been hard for kids to keep their self esteem and confidence growing, so having some thing different to keep them from getting bored is a winner in this house hold. Even his little brother wanted to get on in the act but the metal balls are small so he had to be watched. There is a warning on the box and in the instructions to say about small parts, But i know it will be played with over and over. Some of the sets are expensive. but starting off with the starter set is an ideal way to start them off before buying the bigger sets. I am very pleased with this. As it says on the box “The goal is to create the journey “ …..
