Adult supervision required!
This kit has all you need to keep your child entertained on a rainy day and the results are something you can even hang on the wall!
My daughter is 7 ½ and loves animals and so was very excited to open her bunny creart. The second kit – an age 9+ kit was used by a 12 year old girl who was very poorly and needed something to keep her entertained whilst she sat up in bed.
The packaging and instructions are very clear and make it very clear that to start you will need to wear old clothes and cover the table with newspaper and that adult supervision is needed. There is a warning page inside the box, but the paints are not particularly child friendly (as they are acrylic) and so adult supervision is most definitely required. Whilst my daughter was extremely messy and we most definitely needed to put down our oilcloth on the table before she started and put on her apron and we’re glad we did!!!! The older girl was able to set up with all the paints in front of her on the bed and create the most beautiful piece of art.
The kit also includes a lovely little cardboard paint pallet. Our first step was to push out the holes in the pallet and push in the little paint pots in number order. You get 10 little pots of paints in each set and each has their own unique number. Be aware, the numbers aren’t numbered 1-6, they can be any number and are random, so for example, ours were numbers included 60, 97, 89 etc. This leaves 3 little holes in the pallet for your artist to put their fingers through and hold the pallet as they paint, although we made sure our little one left it on the table!
There is only one paintbrush in the set, so you will also need a pot of water and paper towel to clean the brush after each colour (again this is clear from the instructions). My daughter started with white, but we waited for each colour to dry in between, so we didn’t risk smudging into each colour. This also meant the activity took longer, which was great!
There is a paper version of the picture, as well as wooden and you can use this to practice before finalising your very own piece of art!
You are told to stir the pot with a toothpick before you start. This is not in the set and it might be worth them including a small wooden stick, as not everyone has toothpicks and you might not want to buy a whole tub just for this activity.
They say if the water is too thick to add a drop of water, but not too much, as it won’t work if the paint is too runny. If the number shows through once dry, the paint was too runny and you can go over it again. This is where I think that it is perhaps an activity for older children, or your younger children definitely need supervision. My 7 year old definitely needed supervising with this activity, but if your children are 10-12, this might not be an issue.
Once completed, you need to leave your paint to dry overnight. When completely dry, you can then use the varnish (also provided in a sachet, but perhaps could be squeezed into a small pot?) to paint a thin layer over all the picture to make it shine and last. The varnish is also used as glue to stick some glittery jewels on your art.
Finally, it is ready to frame and a white frame is provided.
There are lots of pictures and sets you can buy in this Creart set, so you can collect and create many pieces of art work to be framed!
The autumn kitties set is available from Amazon Prime @£7.99, but the bunny set is just £4.06 and other sets are available. My daughter loves puppies and that will be her next set!
Also available from the Entertainer for £8
Overall: With the Great British Summer you need something to entertain the kids! This is a great kit with everything you need inside – other than an art apron and tablecloth!
Rating: 4.5/5 (only because of the use of acrylic with the age rating really – the product itself is great!)
