The parcel arrived in a plastic bag which was a good thing as it was tipping down with rain when it was delivered. The jacket was also wrapped in a clear plastic bag thus if there was a tear in the packaging (which can happen), it remains nice and dry. I loved the colour – mocha but black is also available. The jacket’s fabric is recycled 100% polyester and this is a soft brushed fleece. The jacket is lined with baffle style stitching in black which is said to increase insulation as the jacket has been designed to hold in the heat. I love the corduroy zipped pocket on the chest as provides some contrast with the fleece and I also like the corduroy elbow patches which give the jacket a classic design as well as being practical. The full-length zip has a leather pulley with an endless knot rivet which looks smart. According to their website, an endless knot rivet, provides a subtle reminder of the interconnectedness of all beings on earth. However, the multicoloured thread pulley for the corduroy pockets look a little silly when next to the leather pulley. I assume this helps to link with where the company comes from. As well as the chest pocket, there are two hand pockets on either side of the main zip with multicoloured thread pulleys so the pockets can also be zipped up. These pockets also have a strip of corduroy on their edge which helps in creating a classic smart look. They are a good size and certainly my hands fitted comfortably in them and felt warm, so gloves are not always needed.

The weather was perfect for testing out this jacket as it is sunny, dry but below freezing! I am impressed. I put the jacket on over my fleece top which I wear as my second layer and decided not to wear gloves so I could also test the pockets. My body was kept nice and warm as were my hands. The jacket is ideal for this time of year as it is well suited to the cold conditions and looks smart too, so I enjoyed wearing it on a walk as well as strolling through town.

The jacket has a lot of green credentials such as being made of plastic waste, so it helps to reduce landfill waste and though it has the same durability as traditional polyester, it uses less energy and water to make. The Rangeli fleece jacket is independently certified by OEKO-TEX®, ensuring responsible production under monitored social working conditions and using environmentally friendly materials

The website and the labels on the jacket recommend a cold machine wash and low tumble dry without using fabric softeners to care for the jacket. Bleach, ironing or dry cleaning are not recommended so it seems very easy to maintain.

The name Rangeli comes from a municipality and rural town in Morang District in the Koshi zone of south eastern Nepal. The company was set up in 2003 by Tashi Sherpa and his family to help the communities and people of Nepal. Their mission statement is to open young minds to new possibilities and inspire lives of adventure through learning. When buying an item from their company, you are also contributing to the charity Room to Read’s, Nepal Education Programme a day of school. If you buy this jacket (I strongly recommend that you do), you are providing 2 days of school for a Nepalese child. Their goal is to provide 10 million school days by 2030. As of 25th November 2025, they have reached 1,726,837 since 2020. The company is also committed to educational scholarships for nine Nepalese children from primary to secondary education.

With the recent increases in costs, the fleece jacket is reasonably priced at £130 and appears to be from a sustainable, green company. I was therefore surprised that the jacket was made in Vietnam rather than Nepal, but the company does state on its website that many of their handcrafted knitted items are made by cooperatives of female knitters based in Kathmandu. This jacket is certainly one I would highly recommend despite not being made in Nepal. An ideal Christmas present.
