Puppy Love by Charles Reasoner Review

Having not read anything else by Charles Reasoner I wasn’t sure what to expect from Puppy Love (part of the Little Cuddles series) but my little ones were keen to read the story as soon as they saw the front cover featuring a cheerful and loveable little puppy.

Puppy Love is a small board book for children. I think it would appeal most to babies and toddlers or new young readers reading to younger siblings. There is just a little text and the main focus is on the pictures of the puppy as it goes through the day. The author tells the story of what the puppy does during the day.

It is a sturdy little book, hopefully making it fairly indestructible in little hands and the thick pages are relatively easy to wipe down if they get covered in sticky fingers or drink spills. It has shaped die cut pages and a simple rhyming text. Over ten pages, illustrated with cute pictures, we see “Puppy runs! Puppy plays! Puppy jumps! Puppy stays. Puppy loves every day.”

Its compact size means it is ideal for taking out and about for some reading whilst waiting in a cafe or can be enjoyed at home at bedtime. It will be read again and again and children can spot different things going on in the pictures each time and use their imagination to elaborate on what is going on in the story.
