I am surrounded by steak loving males in my home, I myself am a vegetarian however find myself weekly cooking up a storm for them with their favourite, medium rare filet steak.
When the opportunity came along to review steak knives it may seem strange for a vegetarian to put their name forward but if I am cooking high quality meat for my family, then they should have high quality cutlery to eat it with. I was not disappointed.
The knives themselves arrive in a very simply designed outer box, rustic design with the background print slated wood – on trend with restaurants serving meals on anything but a simple plate any more. The outer box also confirms that the knives have a 10-year guarantee, that is a lot of steak!
Inside the box, the knives are carefully displayed in a gift box, and once opened they are covered with a thin layer of sponge, the greatest care has been taken to preserve the quality of the knives within the box.
These knives are certainly a step upwards in terms of design and quality to the ones we currently have, it is almost a shame to take them out and use them, they look so shiny and new encased safely. Before using the set, it is highly recommended to wash them in warm soapy water and dry.
The handles are black with a stainless-steel x30 and a Rockwell hardness rating of 52+2 serrated blade that cuts through the meat with ease. The handles are ergonomically designed for a comfortable grip. The knives look solid and therefore look like they would be heavy to hold but they are very light and easy to use. The steel My youngest is eight and usually hacks away at the steak making a complete hash of the piece of meat but was able to use this knife with ease. No sign of hacking at all. Of course it has to be said these are sharp knives and are not to be handled by young children without supervision, my son has been using steak knives for some time but was watched with caution with this brand, new blade.
It has to be said the knife design is a masculine one, there is nothing dainty fancy or feminine about them, perhaps then an investment for the carnivore men in your life as a Christmas gift! I am in no way ruling these out for women at all, I know women enjoy a steak as well as a man, but some men are not the easiest to buy for and this high-quality set would surely raise a smile.
The set is available from www.procook.co.uk for £25 – a bargain price for a guaranteed ten years of use.
It might seem strange to you that a vegetarian is recommending steak knives as a gift, but life is about choices and each to their own, so if you love a steak, grab a set of these knives and eat it with a little bit of luxury, and maybe a great big glass of red.
