We attended the Play at Brewers Fayre event at Tirfounder Fields, Aberdare for the opening of their new play area. The venue is easy to find with ample free parking.
The event started at 10.15 we arrived at 10.05 and were immediately greeted, seated and offered complimentary drinks there were colouring books and crayons on the table for the children.
After a short wait Dennis the Menace arrived and we were invited into the new play area. There has been a considerable transformation in the play area, previously although there was a well-equipped play area there were just a few seats for parents to watch the children play, but no tables where families could sit and eat together. Even when you had a child’s party the party would be seated outside the play area which wasn’t an ideal for supervision as it meant either children had to leave the play area if they needed their parents or the parents had to sit away from the dining table to supervise while the children played, this encouraged many parents to move their parties to play centres where they can sit and watch the children play from their table, unfortunately in my experience the quality of food at most play centres isn’t usually good. There was a niche market that required exactly what this new area provides, good food in a play area setting.
The new play area at Aberdare, allows parents to relax and enjoy their meal while still ensuring their children are adequately supervised. A new party package should see many families returning and favouring Brewers Fayre as a party venue.
The actual play equipment has always been ample to amuse the children but now there are added extras like the cars and a mini hall of mirrors, which my grandson was very amused by.
The room itself has had a truly amazing transformation, the Dennis the Menace theme runs throughout the play area, with even the ceiling following the theme. Everything is fresh and clean, they have succeeded in created a play centre within the pub, where parents with children can relax as they can see the children from their dining table, which also benefits diners without children who can enjoy a quieter atmosphere without children and parents constantly passing. There is also a stunning room within the play area where the party children can sit together around one large table, I have already recommended Aberdare to friends as a party venue.
The transformation has been well thought out, and various activities for parents and children are available.
We had a fantastic day, our food was served together, so we all ate at the same time, and the temperatures were good, and the portions were ample. I had Tikka Masala served with rice, a poppadum and naan bread, which was very tasty. One of my daughters had fish and chips the other had chicken which they both enjoyed.
The children had hot dogs and fish bites, the empty plates spoke for themselves. Dessert was chocolate fudge cake, cheese cake, caramel apple Betty and brownies with ice cream for the children, again ample portions and very tasty. I have to say, I was impressed, we all enjoyed our food and the children loved the new play area.
I recommend Tirfounder Fields and will be returning, with the grandchildren, as a couple and will definitely be booking birthday parties for the children in the play area. I realise I have repeated the advantages of parents being seated where they can see their children, but any parent who has experienced trying to relax and enjoy food while trying to persuade children to leave the play area will totally appreciate the benefit.
Well worth a visit.
