I may not be a total vegan but I do not eat any meat and I’m always trying to make more ethical choices in my everyday life. During the current pandemic like a lot of other people I have been doing all my grocery shopping online which works well for me, but the downside to this is I am buying the same things all the time and not noticing any new products like I would when I am physically walking the supermarket aisles, so I was very interested in trying this product.
As this was the first time I had ever tried an egg alternative I decided the best way would be for me to follow one of the recipes out of the booklet Oggs had sent me. I was immediately drawn to the recipe for American style pancakes. We love pancakes in our house. I’ve got to be honest and tell you that when I emptied the Oggs Aquafaba carton into the bowl it did not look good. It’s a pale brownish liquid, looks nothing like an egg, and has a bit of a bean smell. However when it was whisked up it did start resemble egg whites, I followed the recipe and was rewarded with beautiful fluffy American pancakes. My husband wolfed them down. I didn’t tell him about the alternative ingredient I’d used just to see if he noticed any change in the taste, he didn’t.
One 200ml carton of plant based Aquafaba is equivalent to 4 eggs, it has a very long self life (my packs had 9 months), can be frozen for up to three months or once opened will keep in the fridge for up to one week. I think this product will become a store cupboard staple in our household. It’s fat and sugar free and only 9 calories per serving .There are lots of tips about how to use it on loveoggs.com
I don’t think I have come across a more ethical company than Oggs. There are lots of things they are doing to make the world a better place which you can read about on the web site and they use local UK suppliers and factories to make their products. I think you can tell from their quirky packaging and branding they also have a good sense of humour.
You can buy Aquafaba on loveoggs.com, six cartons for £12.00. It is also available from some major supermarkets including Waitrose, Asda and Sainsbury’s. There is a handy stockist locator on the website that not only tells you which stores stock the products, but where in the store you will find it.
When looking at the website I found that Oggs also produce a range of cakes and bites and just like the Aquafaba they are vegan, cruelty free and come in planet friendly packaging, the cakes are available from some major supermarkets but not from the website. I love this product. I love this company they are doing so many good things.
