Nespresso by Magimix Vertuo Next Coffee Machine From AO.com Review

I, like many others, am fuelled by caffeine!  Coffee is my beverage of choice when I wake up, and I reach for cup after cup as I work through the challenges of the day.  There are a wide variety of coffee machines on the market so it can be a little daunting trying to figure out which is the right fit which is why I’ve avoided it until now.

My Nespresso Vertuo Next coffee machine came from British company AO.com, who are an online electrical retailer selling a wide range of items from large appliances such as fridges, washing machines, and televisions, through to smaller household appliances such coffee machines, laptops, and mobile phones.  Highly rated on Trustpilot, it’s a company that should always be considered when you are looking to purchase electrical items.

The coffee machine was well packaged when it arrived as it had a sturdy outer box as well as the official Nespresso product box.  The machine itself is primarily black with a stylish white top, and a clear water reservoir.  A dark grey version is also available.  Unlike some of the home coffee machine’s that friends and family have, the Nespresso Vertuo Next is relatively slim and fits neatly on a countertop without being too intrusive.  This is perfect for me as I don’t have a huge amount of kitchen work surface to store appliances.

I’m a creature of habit and tend to opt for the same blend of coffee so it was a nice surprise that the machine came with a selection of 12 coffee capsules, as it meant I was able to taste different types of coffee that I haven’t tried before. The machine uses Nespresso Vertuo capsules which are new dome style pods.  One downside of this is that you can’t use standard Nespresso capsules or other brand capsules in this machine, however according to the official Nespresso website there are 28 different Vertuo coffee blend varieties available, each matched to a specific cup size for the best flavour results, so there are a wide variety to choose from.  I like that the new style capsules are aluminium which can be recycled.  Unfortunately for me our kerbside recycling doesn’t yet accept them however included in the Nespresso box was a bag for Podback which is a free recycling service that I’ll definitely be using.

Operating the coffee machine is easy; you simply fill the water reservoir, switch the machine on and wait for it to preheat.  Once the machine has reached the correct temperature, the light will stop flashing.  Adjust the cup support to the correct position by pulling it gently towards you and then slotting it back in at the most appropriate height.  Twist the lever on top of the machine to the open position, insert a capsule with the dome facing down, close the lid, and then twist the lever back into the locked position.  Place a cup on the support and press the cup button to start the process.  The machine automatically recognises the type of coffee capsule inserted and will stop the coffee flow in accordance with this.  Despite the machine preheating, the coffee isn’t quite as hot as I would like though I think this is more personal preference rather than the design of the machine.  To combat this, I warm up both my cup and the milk before I pour in the brewed coffee which does take slightly longer but makes a difference.

This coffee machine would be great for someone who loves their coffee but cannot afford coffee shop prices, or as a gift for someone who would enjoy the coffee shop experience in the comfort of their own home.  As it doesn’t take up a huge amount of space it could be an ideal gift for University students living in halls or shared accommodation, as no doubt they are powered by caffeine in the same way as me!  One thing to note is that if you are thinking of buying one of these as a present, just be mindful that the outer box did say ‘Nespresso’ in large print so there is no hiding what it is!
