Musical Pop Out Mizzie Toy Review

Delighted can be the only appropriate word to describe my feelings at being selected to review the Musical Hop out Mizzie music box. Mizzie the Kangaroo is a bright and playful character designed by Aussie parents to stimulate learning and encourage development. The toy range expanded from Mizzie the teething toys success.

Reminiscent of an old fashioned jack in the box it is a tin box with a lever for winding at the side, the concept is simple- wind the lever and enjoy the beautiful melody until…Mizzie the kangaroo hops out! The metal box is robustly made and of high quality, decorated with a beach scene and Mizzie cheekily peeking out from behind a tree, the bold and colourful box is enough to capture a child’s interest. The lever is easy for small hands to grasp and Mizzie is a sight to behold.

The tune that plays is the childhood classic ‘pop goes the weasel’ well what better tune could accompany a surprising kangaroo.  This pop up toy is recommended for ages 18 months and older but I think it can be enjoyed much earlier than that with supervision, what baby doesn’t like a surprising game of peek a boo after all.

This jack in the box- or should I say kangaroo in the box is also wonderful in terms of encouraging children’s sensory development. The box encourages exploration of the world, and plays beautifully into an infants love of the classic game- peekaboo! Hand eye coordination skills are built from learning to turn the easy to grasp lever. An infants coordination skills are also nurtured by the combination of music and movement and learning to predict an event. It is a joy to behold an infant surprised by Mizzie only second to the joy of watching an infant learn to anticipate Mizzie’s surprising arrival.

I gifted this item to my baby niece, it was the perfect gift, one that will not only grow with her and encourage her development but lends itself to her entertainment. She was so intrigued by the box and when Mizzie popped out it was lovely to watch her range of emotions from surprise to hilarity in seconds, there is nothing quite like a baby giggle and this really did make her laugh. Just wonderful. Once the tune has been played in full and Mizzie had popped up, she is just to be stuffed back into the tin with the lid closed on top, (little ones may very well need help with this) then she is ready to go again.

The Musical Hop Out Mizzie- Music Box retails for £25.20 which is slightly more expensive than similar pop out toys on the market, but as with the rest of the Mizzie range there is no denying the excellent quality of the item. Robust enough to be passed on for another to enjoy after your little one has finished with it.

The Music Box can be purchased individually or as a gift set with either the Mizzie Puzzle set or with the very lovely Mizzie nursery rhyme sound book. This would make an excellent gift for a little person at any occasion. I would recommend the Mizzie products – they do not disappoint!
