Mizzie the Kangaroo is an Australian brand aimed at younger children now available in the U.K. The brainchild of Sandra Ebbot who founded the company in 2016 after she struggled to find the right teething toy for her daughter. Their website says ‘from birth to toddler years, every single Mizzie product was designed specifically to help children learn through play.’
The Mizzie Hopping Around Australia puzzles are beautifully packaged in a sturdy cardboard box with a lift up lid. This will stack neatly with other toys which is always helpful. The outside of the box is decorated with one of the puzzle pictures and inside is covered in a dark green with lighter green kangaroos. The box contains three puzzles of differing numbers of pieces and sizes of jigsaw puzzles ranging in difficulty to challenge little ones development. They are suitable for children 2+ years old. All the jigsaw pieces are made from sturdy thick board which are perfect for little hands to grip. All the pictures depict Mizzie in Australia. The design is very eco friendly as there is no plastic whatsoever, however despite this the individual pieces look and feel as though they will be durable and stand the test of time.
Puzzle 1 – in the Outback has just four chunky pieces. A great starter jigsaw for little ones to get to grips with the idea of what is required.
Puzzle 2 – At the Surf has six pieces and is a progression of difficulty to further develop those important skills.
Puzzle 3 – In Sydney has nine pieces including one central piece, so a little more challenging but a natural progression from 1 and 2.
The names of the puzzles describe the images well so you know what to expect. The colours of the images are typical of natural Australian habitats.
Our granddaughter will be two soon and is just starting to become interested in jigsaw puzzles so these are perfect for her to play with. Grandma and grandad will love having time to play quietly with her too. The images on the puzzles will help us to encourage her to find the characters and try out new words, so not only will she learn new skills, but she will have lots of fun spotting the fish, birds, boat, clouds, Mizzie the Kangaroo etc. and trying out and add new words to her vocabulary.
The information on the box says ‘let your child grow with 3 Mizzie Puzzles, increasing with difficulty. Challenge the young minds and also enjoy other educational benefits such as improving fine motor skills and hand eye coordination, problem solving skills and self esteem through achievement, cognitive development such as visual awareness and understanding themes and topics and patience.’
Whilst these are not the cheapest jigsaw puzzles on the market for toddlers, they are certainly unusual in design, I have not seen anything similar in the shops or online. The Mizzie website has a wide range of toys and books suitable for babies through to toddlers all based on the Kangaroo theme, so there is a great opportunity to add additional items if your little one enjoys this one.
A great gift for Easter or anytime.
