We received the book “300 Fantastic Facts – Dinosaurs” from Miles Kelly to review. This is a slightly larger than A4 paperback book with an embossed picture of a roaring T-Rex on the cover. The cover is very eye catching and would certainly catch the attention of my dinosaur mad daughter if she saw it in a book shop.
The book itself is packed full of excellent illustrations and photos and split into 3 key sections: prehistoric life, dinosaurs and T-Rex. There is a clear contents page allowing the reader to select an engaging topic, such as “reptiles take over” or “dinosaur babies”, and a detailed index at the back. This makes it easy for the reader to find what they’re looking for.
The text is laid out in short chunks on each page, making it easy for younger readers to manage. My daughter is 6 and a fairly confident reader – I would say she can manage a fair amount of the text (aside from the more complicated dinosaur names) by herself but it’s suited more to the 7-10 age range.
Amongst the 300 facts there are also short quizzes to keep the reader entertained and even little activities to do, such as making an “edible reptile” or a cardboard model of a dinosaur that will stand up by itself. These activities are just right for the age range of the reader as most would be possible for them to do with little or no adult supervision.
This is an absolutely fascinating book that I know my daughter will love to read over and over. I would highly recommend it to any budding palaeontologists out there!
The RRP is £9.99 which is reasonable for a book of this quality.
