A friend and I have been so excited since hearing that we were going to see Michael Bolton at The Lowry in Salford Quays, Manchester. Michael is a multi-Grammy award vocalist with 9 numbers one hits and has sold over 53 million records around the world!
When we arrived at the theatre and there was a convenient drop off point and the theatre was buzzing with anticipation. We quickly picked up our tickets from the box office staff and had a wander over to the stand selling some fantastic Michael Bolton merchandise. The theatre is impressive and has several places where you can buy food and drink. We bought soft drinks before heading to our seats. We were seated in row M of the stalls and had a fantastic view of the stage. Looking at the theatre layout, I would imagine that you would get a great view from anywhere.
First up was the support act, Lucy May. She came out and sang some beautiful songs. Her guitarist was outstanding too. I would definitely consider buying more of her music. There was then a short break and Michael Bolton’s set began. There were huge screams from all around the theatre as he came on stage. He had 2 female backing singers and 5 band members, all of whom simply blew me away with their musical talent. Michael himself interacted really well with the audience. There were some very funny moments in between songs where people shouted out ‘Marry me’ and ‘You’re still gorgeous’. One fan even stood up and finished off one of his songs. Michael sang a few duets with Amanda Brown and Kelly Levesque, both who are very talented artists.
Michael wowed the crowd with a great mix of songs, old and new. My personal favourites were ‘Steel Bars’, ‘When a man loves a woman’ and ‘Time, love and tenderness’. By the end of the set virtually the whole audience was up singing and dancing. The atmosphere was just phenomenal.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful and the toilet facilities spotless. I was also delighted (being a twin mummy) to note that there is even an area to leave buggies.
My friend and I had the most brilliant evening seeing Michael Bolton, one which will not be forgotten for a long time. For myself, I was a bit overwhelmed to get a chance to see this amazing guy who’s CD’s I used to buy when I was growing up. I played one of said CD’s to my 8 year old daughter and 2 month old twins this afternoon and I think it’s safe to say that he has 3 new little fans too.
Without a doubt 5/5 and I would give it more if I could.
Michael Bolton has 3 more UK tour dates: 20 May at Cliffs Paviliion in Southend, 22 May at the Royal Albert Hall in London and 24 May at Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth before moving on to Dublin and then back to USA. For more details or to book tickets visit www.michaelbolton.com.
