Really Know How To Do Christmas
Reviewed by Brian Grehan
Last Sunday 8 of us sat down to a fantastic meal featuring food from the magnificent Marks and Spencer range. We started off with some salmon and cheese bagels along with some almond and macadamia nuts and caramel nut collection all of which were very popular with everyone. A 50 piece snack pack featuring sausage rolls, spicy tomato filled balls of meat and cocktail sausages didn’t last long either.
The main course was superbly cooked, the centrepiece was the free range turkey which was so large it lasted for a few days after this meal. The turkey was the nicest and the most lean that I have ever tasted. The turkey was complimented by mini new potatoes and some fantastic vegetables, cauliflower broccoli carrots and sprouts. A parsnip tray was also very popular. The turkey's flavour was enhanced by turkey gravy and cranberry sauce and most people enjoyed the pork and chestnut stuffing.
When everyone had finished their main course everyone enjoyed a luscious pudding for dessert with either brandy cream or brandy and champagne cream. I’m not usually a pudding eater but I loved this pudding. It was so rich in flavour. There were many gasps of wow around the dinner table. To round things off most people enjoyed the extensive cheeseboard selection which was enhanced by some biscuits and crackers. The cranberry cheese was delightful. The children barely gave the adults a look in with the canapé cubes, especially the chocolate ones.
The whole meal was accompanied by some excellent wines, a Burra Brook Merlot and a white Frizzante. For those of us who are not wine drinkers there was some Winter IPA or a Wiltshire Rum beer both of which tasted divine. The cider went down well too. The children and adults alike thought the Fruit Presse was tangy and thirst quenching.
The meal oozed quality, yet the cost of every item was very reasonable. In fact, several people who enjoyed the meal have plans to purchase many of the items for the festive period.
Everyone was delighted with the food. The flavours were so rich and we would definitely recommend a trip to Marks and Spencer for any food shopping especially with the festive season upon us.
