Lotil is an English brand, made by Fenton Pharmaceuticals Limited, that has been around for over 100 years. Their original moisturising cream is versatile and can be applied anywhere on the skin including the face, elbow, knees, and hands – the areas that I find tend to dry out most. It has a thick creamy consistency that lasts a long time, with a small amount going a long way. It has a subtle, clean, almost clinical, scent which I prefer to the highly perfumed fragrance of other moisturisers. The cream absorbs easily giving quick relief when the skin is feeling particularly irritated, and leaves it soft, soothed, and hydrated with a nourished but non-greasy feel. Whilst other products tend to disappear once you wash your hands, this cream provides long-lasting moisturisation that can still be felt after many washes.

As a family we all suffer with dry skin, with our hands getting progressively worse during the cold winter months due to the frequent changes in temperature between the outside and centrally heated indoor spaces, resulting in the skin becoming red, cracked, and sore. Over the years I’ve tried various creams to help alleviate the irritation with varying degrees of success. After trialling Lotil original moisturising cream for five days, with morning and evening applications on my face, and around five applications per day on my hands, I have definitely noticed a difference in the condition of my skin, particularly the main problem areas on my hands such as my knuckles, joints and fingertips. On my face the condition of my skin has improved and evened out, and my make up goes on more easily. There is still some redness and a few cracks on my hands however this has reduced considerably in a relatively short period of time which has been a huge relief.

Containing ingredients that give it antiseptic, anti-fungal and antibacterial benefits, the cream aids repair and protects the skin from infection by supporting the natural healing process. Whilst I’ve not tried it myself, I understand this product can be used as a soap replacement for sufferers of eczema and other skin conditions, and as it contains anti-fungal ingredients it can also be used to alleviate the symptoms of athlete’s foot.

This moisturising cream is reasonably priced and comes in a variety of packaging sizes (30 ml tube, 50 ml tube, 114 ml tub and 500 ml pump dispenser) so you have different options for use at home, when you are out, or at work. The tubes are a great size for being carried in your handbag, backpack, or gym bag, and are packaged well with a tight-fitting screw top that should prevent them from leaking.

I have no idea whether this is going to be the cream that solves my skin complaints long term but the effect it has had so far has been extremely positive and I intend to keep using it.

Rating: 4.5/5

RRP: £6.61 for the 114ml tub and £3.60 for the 50ml tube.

Along with the original moisturising cream, Lotil also make a soothing lip balm and nourishing foot cream.
