This quirky modern European cuisine restaurant is set on Farringdon Road in Clerkenwell, London, just a short walk from Farringdon tube station, on the Hammersmith & City line or Circle & Metropolitan line. It is situated near the Sadler Wells theatre so is perfect for pre/post theatre show, especially as it is open until 12am.
My table was booked for 7.30pm on a Monday night for myself and my guest.
As I approached the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw and from the moment I opened the doors, I was immediately greeted by a smiling member of staff who took us to our table, where I couldn’t fail to notice the remarkable decor. Deep red vibrant walls, with artwork entwined and on the tables & bar; empty candle filled wine bottles on each table, overflowing with crazy waxy shapes. It took a while to take it all in and made for a really relaxing, chilled place to be.
After being seated and studying the menu we ordered our starters: PARSONS PASTRY – Filo Pastry filled with Smoked Chicken, Mushrooms and Herbs, CALAMARI RINGS – Salad and Tartare Sauce with a bottle of rose wine. The wine was brought to us immediately and the starters shortly after. The portion size was very generous but tasted so good I had to eat it all!
For our mains we ordered CHICKEN A-LA-PETER – Stuffed with Lamb Mince Meat, Broccoli, Mash Potato and Port Wine Jus and FILLET OF PLAICE – Spring Polenta and Mint and Lime Sauce: again very generous portion sizes and cooked to perfection.
Our dessert choices were APPLE CAKE – with custard and a SELECTION OF CHEESES. The apple cake was absolutely divine and just seemed to melt in the mouth. I can honestly say I have never had anything quite like it. Absolutely gorgeous.
Throughout our meal, the staff would refill our glasses when needed and were courteous and polite throughout. The place was clean and tidy. For a Monday night in town, I wouldn’t have expected the restaurant to have been so busy, but you can’t argue with good food and great service, not to mention the reasonable prices. They have half price offers on the menu at the moment, so you can get a 3 course meal from £9.75 per person making it extremely good value.
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening completely and will certainly go back again. I would definitely recommend the Little Bay Restaurant.
