The LeapReader is a reading and writing system to help your children read and write by using the pen with the LeapReader books (suitable for age 4-9 years, a junior version is also available for 1-3 years).
Before we even opened the packaging, the children were very excited! The LeapReader itself was better than I expected, with lots of features as well as reading, that the children are really enjoy using.
We had two books in addition to the sampler booklet included with the pen; Sofia the First and Leap and the Lost Dinosaur, both of which have been a big hit (these books are sold separately at £12.99 RRP each, currently £6.49 each).
My older daughter who is 5 and just about to start year 1 is really enjoying being able to listen to the stories and follow the words. Sometimes she plugs in her headphones and uses it on her own, and other times she sits together with her brother and they both use the books together.
The other interactive parts of the story are great and she has really liked being able to earn badges from remembering parts of the story she’s heard or read so far. You can even click on the pictures of each character and they speak to you so it feels much more personal.
My youngest is thoroughly enjoying the interactive parts of the books, especially the dinosaur book which will last for years to come as he learns to read, but in the meantime is great for learning facts about dinosaurs and finding things in the book with the pen.
It’s a very clever product, and lots of different aspects to it which means varied uses from specific word learning, reading to entertainment.
The starter booklet you get included with the pen is also really good. It gets them started on how to use the pen using excerpts from different stage books, and there is also a sample of the LeapFrog Learning Paper which they can use to practice writing.
I would highly recommend this product to my friends with children. It’s a really fun, easy to use and educational toy and at a reasonable price. We will be looking at what other books I can buy to go with it!
