When the Kix Scooter was delivered, my first impressions were that it looked too small a box to hold all the components and it would take a lot of piecing together. The box it was delivered in is very appealing to children as predominantly blue in colour with some bursts of green. The box itself is very sturdy and has a very convenient carry handle which would have been handy if we had purchased from a shop.

On opening the box, I was dreading the million parts I had to assemble, but that wasn’t the case at all. In all there were three parts, the handle bars, the front wheels and the base. The handle bars were collapsed and had stretchy string holding them close so they couldn’t stray far. It was very easy and clear from the instructions how they simply slid and clicked into place. Next I had four screws and a bolt at my disposal, the handle bars slid through the base and into a housing that holds the wheels and the bolt slides through to hold it in place. You then screw the four screws in the bottom of the base and you are ready to rock and roll! In all, it took five minutes and you are provided with a handy Allen key to help you assemble.

Once put together, our 2 year old twins became very excited, to be fair they were excited when they saw the box constantly saying “bike, bike, bike”. After explaining to them it’s a scooter they wanted to give it a whirl. Firstly I know this is aimed at 3+ so I was expecting it to be difficult for my boys to ride. At first it was, I say at first I literally mean the first ten minutes. The scooter doesn’t steer by turning the handle bars but by leaning side to side. The first few times the boys stumbled as they didn’t know it would lean but they got used to it very quickly and after fighting over who was next they were soon scooting round the house.

It is very well built, sturdy and although it leans doesn’t just fall over. It has a non-slip grip on the wide base and in all is very easy on the eye, and takes up hardly any space in the house. And has 3 wheels (2 front, 1 rear for greater stability). I would recommend this product for little ones starting to learn their balance and wanting a scooter. I believe it is good value for money compared to what’s available now. I will be buying another one for my little mans’ twin brother.
