The UK’s official SPAM® Appreciation Week brings together fans old and new from all over the UK, to share their love of this world famous meat, which is a unique blend of shoulder pork and leg ham.
During week commencing 3 March, the unique taste and versatility of SPAM® Brand is to be celebrated! From SPAMBURGER™s and breakfast fry ups to pasta and stir fry dishes, SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham can be diced and sliced, then grilled or fried, to make many tasty meals and snacks.
Here’s some recipes that Keep It Real in the kitchen to inspire you during this special week or at any time of year:
SPAM® Cheesy Macaroni Bake
The yummy threesome – SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham, cheese and macaroni – come together to make a pasta bake that comfortably feeds up to six people using one 340g can of SPAM®
Ingredients
1x 340g can SPAM® cubed
8g flour
28g butter
¼ teaspoon dried mustard
225g elbow macaroni
30g fresh breadcrumbs
1 pinch black pepper
400ml milk
Sprinkle of Paprika
250g mild Cheddar cheese (grated)
¼ teaspoon salt
Method
- Heat oven to 200°C. Lightly grease an 8×8” casserole pan
- Cook macaroni according to the pack, then drain
- In casserole dish, stir together SPAM® cubes and macaroni
- In a medium saucepan, melt 14g of butter. Blend in flour, salt, mustard,
black pepper until smooth - Stir in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring until mixture thickens and boils. Add the grated cheese and cook, stirring until it’s melted
- Pour over SPAM® mixture and stir in well
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the remaining butter, then stir in breadcrumbs and paprika
- Sprinkle over macaroni and bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the oven
SPAM® Monte Cristo Sandwich (Serves 6)
Featuring sizzling slices of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham and melted cheese on soft white bread. Elevate your mealtimes with this Keep It Real twist on a classic sandwich, blending the iconic taste of SPAM® with gooey melted Monterey Jack cheese – the perfect pairing!
Ingredients
1 x 340g can of SPAM® sliced
45g butter
2 large eggs
60ml milk
6 slices of Monterey Jack cheese cut in half
12 slices white bread
Method
- Cut the SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham into 12 slices and cook until golden brown
- Layer the SPAM® slices and cheese on six slices of bread, then cover with remaining slices
of bread - In a bowl, mix the eggs and milk; quickly dip both sides of the sandwiches into the egg mixture
- Sauté the sandwiches in butter over medium heat in a frying or skillet pan until the cheese is melted and both sides are browned
SPAM® Western Omelette
This tasty SPAM® Omelette will set you up for the day and liven up your tastebuds!
Serves 4
Ingredients
1 x 340g can SPAM® diced
4 teaspoons butter
8 large eggs
¼ teaspoon chili powder
1 chopped large green pepper
2 thinly sliced medium onions
4 tablespoons milk
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Black pepper
Method:
- In a medium frying pan, heat oil and sauté the pepper and onions until lightly browned
- Stir in the SPAM® cubes and chili powder until well mixed
- For each omelette, in a bowl, beat together 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon milk, 1/8 teaspoon salt and black pepper
- In a frying pan, melt 1 teaspoon of butter and pour in the egg mixture
- Cook over a medium heat, pushing the cooked edge of the omelette to centre as the egg sets and tilting the pan to allow the uncooked mixture to run to the edge
- When the surface of the omelette is set, spoon quarter of the SPAM® mixture onto half of the omelette, then flip the uncovered half over the filling
- Cook until the bottom of the omelette is browned
