Kambukka Etna 3 in 1 Thermal Mug Review

Who said functional and high-quality stuff needed to be plain or boring? Certainly not the folks at Kambukka, who have just sent me the most fabulous 3 in 1 Thermal Mug to try out! I have a very busy life at the moment and feel like I am always on the go – but one thing is a constant: I need my morning coffee to even feel human in the morning!

We have had lots of very early starts recently, getting family members to various appointments in different cities, so haven’t always had the time to grab my coffee before I leave the house in the morning. Coffee on the go from motorway service stations or hospital coffee shops are ridiculously expensive, and I do prefer to make mine exactly how I like it, rather than a standard machine coffee. And given how busy we are during the week, we have been trying to set time aside at the weekend to enjoy as a family, and given as it is now summer, we have been doing that outdoors. Again, getting my coffee fix isn’t easy – there are no coffee shops in the middle of the Yorkshire countryside, so I need to take my own with me.

The Kambukka 3 in 1 Thermal Mug is a very clever idea, which makes taking your daily brew out with you even easier. The clever bit, other than the stainless-steel vacuum bottle that keeps your coffee warm or your water cool, is the lid. The 3 in 1 lid has a slider on the top with three positions – closed, open and push-to-drink. The closed and open are self-explanatory; in closed, the lid is sealed and doesn’t release liquid and in open, the seal is opened and the liquid pours out freely. The middle setting means that the lid is sealed unless you push a button on the side, and the seal is then opened only whilst the button is pressed inwards.

It’s a fabulous idea, and one that makes it so much easier and safer to take your drinks out and about with you. I particularly liked it for when we’re our walking, as lots of the thermos style drinks bottles only have open tops, so it is easy to spill your coffee, and you certainly can’t drink whilst you are walking. It’s also super for taking out somewhere busy, as it won’t spill if it is left by a seat and is knocked over. I have found that mine has kept my coffee piping hot all day (the bottle claims 5 hours, but it has certainly managed 8 hours), and it hasn’t spilled or leaked once.

The lid is dishwasher safe, but as we don’t have one, I have been handwashing it. In spite of the mechanism in the lid, it is really easy to clean both the lid and the bottle itself. The lids on the Kambukka range are also interchangeable, so if you had a child’s bottle with a standard lid, you could add this 3 in 1 lid and they could also benefit from the innovative way of drinking!

We have the 300ml version (about the same as a can of fizzy drink), but it is also available in a larger, 500ml size (this one is able to keep the liquid temperature for slightly longer too). There are also patterns for everyone – we were sent a fabulous, bright tropical print called Parrots, but there are other lovely prints available in the range, as well as plain and metallic colours too.

I am over the moon with mine – it really does make getting your coffee on the go a million times easier, and with some of the brilliant prints available, an awful lot more cheerful too!
