The Hawth in Crawley is easy to find and has a large amount of free car parking spaces. It is a modern venue with large auditoriums. There are plenty of toilets, a cafe, restaurant and a number of bars for reasonably priced refreshments. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. What’s great about The Hawth is that there are no restrictive view seats in my opinion. Wherever you get seated you will get a great view of the stage. I’m never disappointed when I visit there.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a musical by Tim Rice and the music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is the retelling of the biblical story from the Book of Genesis about Joseph, his eleven brothers and his coat of many colours. It follows his life from the lows of slavery to his rise to stardom.
This production was great, lots of fun and performed by an incredibly talented cast.
Jaymi Hensley was great as Joseph. Jaymi’s vocal talent and vocal range are phenomenal. There was a near miss where he lost his footing on the steps but he kept his composure, showed what a professional he is and how the show must always go on. Jaymi was accompanied by a strong supporting cast. The eleven brothers, who played many different parts throughout the production, held it together like glue. They sang brilliantly, danced with enthusiasm and were amazingly in sync with each other. They brought life and fun to the show. The music which was performed by the orchestra was beautiful and complimented the talents of Jaymi perfectly. We were treated to the iconic songs ‘Any dream will do ‘ and ‘Close every door’ .
Special credit needs to go to the Joseph choir – the young but talented singers from the Theatre Workshop. Henry Metcalfe, who portrays Jacob, and Andrew Geater, who plays the Elvis inspired Pharaoh.
If you go and see Joseph, you will not be disappointed.
